  • Changes in microbial activity was studied during ambient storage of sheep milk yoghurt. The starter cultures were one pure stain of Yoghurt YH-3 and another mixed culture of Steptococcus salivarious var. thermophilus-YH-S + Lactobacillus delbrueckii var. bulgaricus (1:1). The rate of inoculum in the preparation of sheep milk yoghurt was 3% in both the types of preparation. The acid production increase with the period of storage for both the types of preparation.

  • Vermicompost is an organic fertilizer which converts waste to wealth in a safe and healthy way as it is produced by biopotential of earthworm. It contains plant growth hormones, enzymes, microbial population, and free of harmful pathogens. Application of such a microbiologically active organic substrate may have important effects on the microbial properties of the media. A study was conducted to find out the effect of organic manures in combination with microbial bio inoculants on the growth, plant height, wet weight, dry weight, and yield of coriander.

  • It is likely to provide plants with their necessary nutrients using chemical and biological fertilization. Although chemical fertilization is a quick method, it is not recommendable economically and environmentally, especially if overused. Biological fertilization is the use of soil microbes including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria to inoculate plants. It has been proved that biological fertilization is an efficient method to supply plants with their necessary nutrients.

  • The compost, landfill waste, paddy soil and kitchen waste were used for development of microbial inoculum for the enhancement of biogas production from cattle dung under anaerobic batch conditions. Six digesters were set up containing, biogas slurry, compost, paddy soil, landfill waste and kitchen waste along with cattle dung in different concentration. The dehydrogenase activity, cellulase activity, N, P, K content, volatile solids, total solids, total volatile fatty acids, C/N ratio and biogas production was studied in samples at different time intervals.

  • Indian soils are rich in microbial diversity, especially fluorescent pseudomonads (FPs) have drawn much attention worldwide because of their plant growth promotion ability by the production of plant growth promoting substance like Indole acetic acid (IAA). In this context, the present study explored for optimization and characterization of IAA production by our isolate Pseudomonas sp VSMKU 4050. The maximum IAA production was observed in King’s B broth (KBB) supplemented with 0.7% L – tryptophan.
