Microsatellites repeats

Microsatellite expansion, such as trinucleotide repeat expansion (TRE), is known to cause a number of genetic diseases. Sanger sequencing and next-generation short-read sequencing are unable to interrogate TRE reliably. We developed a novel algorithm called RepeatHMM to estimate repeat counts from long-read sequencing data.

Accurate determination of microsatellite instability (MSI) status is critical for optimal treatment in cancer patients. Conventional MSI markers can sometimes display subtle shifts that are difficult to interpret, especially in noncolorectal cases. We evaluated an experimental eight marker-panel including long mononucleotide repeat (LMR) markers for detection of MSI.

The central tenet of ‘genome content’ has been that the ‘non-coding’ parts are highly enriched with ‘microsatellites’ or ‘Simple Sequence Repeats’ (SSRs). We presume that the presence and change in number of repeat unit (n) of SSRs in different genomic locations may or may not become beneficial, depending on the position of SSRs in a gene.

Archeological and historical evidence indicated the presence of this species in Southeast Asia dating back at least 1500 years. B. flabellifer is believed to be originated in Africa, spread to South Asia and introduced into Southeast Asia through commercial routes and dissemination of cultures, however, the nature of its invasion and settlement in Thailand is unclear.

Microsatellites or simple sequence repeats (SSRs) are DNA sequences consisting of 1–6 bp tandem repeat motifs present in the genome. SSRs are considered to be one of the most powerful tools in genetic studies.

Ampelopsis grossedentata is an important national medicine in China. It is mainly used commonly by the Yao, Miao, Dong, and other ethnic minorities of China. The current literature, however, contains no study on the molecular genetics and taxonomy of A. grossedentata, which had led to potential problems in the conservation and utilization of this resource. Therefore, the present study was aimed to use simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for assessing the levels and the distribution of genetic diversity in a sample set of 225 individuals from nine populations of A. grossedentata in China.

Microsatellite loci have been used extensively over the past two decades to study the genetic characteristics of non-model species. The ease of microsatellite development and ability to adapt markers from related species has led to the proliferation of available markers for many commonly studied species.

The study "Characterization of grapevine (V. vinifera L.) varieties grown in Yozgat province (Turkey) by simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers" was conducted to characterise 50 grape varieties grown in Yozgat by molecular methods. Molecular definitions were realized using 9 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers (VVS2, VVMD5, VVMD7, VVMD24, VVMD27, VVMD28, VVMD31, VrZAG62, and VrZAG79), including six microsatellite loci used for grapevine variety collections by the European Union funded project (GENRES 081), accepted as the minimum standard set (core set) by the world.

While of predominant abundance across vertebrate genomes and significant biological implications, the relevance of short tandem repeats (STRs) (also known as microsatellites) to speciation remains largely elusive and attributed to random coincidence for the most part.

The objective of this study was to assess morphological and genetic diversities of 48 forage pea landraces collected from different locations at different altitudes in Turkey. Morphological, quality, and yield features were determined for the landraces and three control cultivars in three subsequent years. Genetic diversities of the landraces and cultivars were also monitored using microsatellite (SSR) markers. Our results revealed that the features of landraces are significantly different.

Orobanche cumana is a parasitic plant that can lead to advanced losses in yield of agricultural lands cultivating sunflower, depending on the sunflower varieties and the level of contamination. In our study, genetic diversity of six O. cumana populations from the Thrace region of Turkey was determined with the help of eight SSR (microsatellite) loci. All SSR loci were polymorphic. A total of 23 alleles were determined for the analyzed 120 samples. Allele number of each SSR locus ranged from two to six. Mean number of alleles (Na = 2.271), effective allele number (Ne = 1.

Simple sequence repeats (SSR), also called microsatellites, have been widely used as genetic markers, and have been extensively studied in some model insects. At present, the genomes of more than 100 insect species are available. However, the features of SSRs in most insect genomes remain largely unknown.

Analysis of polymorphic microsatellite markers (STR) is a helpful genotyping technique to differentiate Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto isolates. The aim of this study is to develop and perform an initial validation of an alternative protocol for the reliable and accurate microsatellite genotyping of C. parapsilosis sensu stricto isolates using high-throughput multiplex PCR.

Microsatellites, or Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs), are short tandem repeats of 1–6 nt motifs present in all genomes. Emerging evidence points to their role in cellular processes and gene regulation. Despite the huge resource of genomic information currently available, SSRs have been studied in a limited context and compared across relatively few species.

Microsatellite repeats are ubiquitous in organism genomes and play an important role in the chromatin organization, regulation of gene activity, recombination and DNA replication. Although microsatellite distribution patterns have been studied in most phylogenetic lineages, they are unclear in fish species.
