Nano-hydroxyapatite/starch composite was synthesized using in situ precipitation. Starch concentration effect on the structure of composite was examined. Characterization of the obtained samples, The X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy demonstrated the purity of the formed nano-HA in the starch matrix. Morphology studies of the samples, checked by field emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope, show the effects of starch on the size, shape, and morphology of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles.

Following up on previous attempts to date diatom frustules, further investigations were made on 1) extracting diatom frustules devoid of inorganic luminescent grains, 2) developing an equivalent dose estimating protocol based on the diatomite luminescence characterization, and 3) testing the applicability of this protocol on two lacustrine profiles.

In clay-rich sedimentary rocks, the pore network is considered to play a key role in controlling transport properties. The pore size distribution (PSD) of clay-rich rocks, the geometrical features of the pore network, and the clay content are parameters governing the diffusion process through clay formations.

In the present study, the species Eupholidoptera smyrnensis (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1882) (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae), Decticus verrucivorus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae), and Glyphotmethis spp. (Orthoptera: Pamphagidae) were studied in order to determine hemocyte types. To that end, hemolymph smear preparations were stained using Wright’s stain. According to light microscopic examinations, five hemocyte types, prohemocytes, plasmatocytes, granulocytes, spherulocytes, and oenocytoids, were determined in each species.

New superabsorbent hydrogels were synthesized through free radical graft copolymerization of partially neutralized acrylic acid (AA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) backbones. The structure and morphology of the synthesized superabsorbent hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. The effect of the molar ratio of AMPS to AA, the APS concentration, and the CMC content on swelling ratio was optimized.

Then MWCNTs were added to the mixture of CS–TGA and CS to prepare the CS/CS–TGA/MWCNs porous composite by freeze-drying method and this composite was used to modify an indium tin oxide glass electrode. The electrode was used as a sensor for Pb2+. The morphology and structure of the composite were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope, and their electrochemical behavior was also studied.
