Ten new chromone derivatives were synthesized from the original 2-4-6- trihydroxyacetophenone using microwave irradiation. The product's structures were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectra data. The anti-microbial activities of the obtained compounds were tested by the disc diffusion method. The results showed that most chromones have significant biological activities against Candida albicans.

The efficient synthesis of 12-substituted-3,4,4a,5,12,12a-hexahydrobenzo[b]acridine-1,6,11(2H)-triones starting from 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone, 1,3-cyclohexanedione, and different (hetero)aromatic aldehydes was developed. These reactions were carried out in acetic acid under microwave irradiation in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed employing spectroscopic data as well as elemental analysis. The plausible mechanism of these three-component domino reactions was also described.

A series of chalcone analogues were synthesized using Claisen-Schmidt condensation and assayed for in vitro inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase. The synthesis involved in solvent-free reaction conditions including NaOHcatalyzed grinding or microwave irradiation in the presence of a clay-based catalyst. Hydroxychalcones and 2′-hydroxychalcones were not isolated when using grinding method, while the microwave-assisted, clay-catalyzed synthesis gave these desired products. In addition, flavanones, cyclization products from 2′-hydroxychalcones were formed in both methods.

Microwave irradiation has become a routine technique in homogeneous and effective heating in organic synthesis. However, its application in enzyme-containing reactions is limited since it can cause denaturation of the enzyme. In this study, we have briefly investigated the effect of microwave heating on the conjugation reaction of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with aldehyde derivative of dextran (D-CHO). The reaction was irradiated by microwave at 50 °C for 5 min. The conjugate was confirmed via GPC, in which the conjugates of HRP and D-CHO coexist with free unbound HRP molecules.

Photocatalytic degradation of paracetamol by semiconductor oxides under UV and sunlight illumination
In this study, photocatalytic degradation of paracetamol (acetaminophen), an analgesic and antipyretic drug, was investigated in using semiconductors under UV-B and sunlight irradiation. Semiconductor materials, Bi2 O3 , ZnO, TiO2 , and ZrO2 , were prepared using simple sol–gel, coprecipitation, and microwave synthesis methods. These photocatalyts were characterized by various spectroscopic and other techniques.

The novel phenolic Mannich bases 2,2’-(2-hydroxy-4,5-dimethylbenzylazanediyl)diethanol (1) and 2-((2-(4- (2-hydroxy-4,5-dimethylbenzyl)piperazin-1-yl)ethylamino)methyl)-4,5-dimethylphenol (2) have been synthesized in good yield by using a microwave-induced technique from 3,4-dimethylphenol and corresponding amines in the presence of formaldehyde. Metal complexes of 1 and 2 for Ni(II) (3 and 5) and for Cu(II) (4 and 6) have also been prepared and all compounds have been characterized by elemental and spectral analyses.

A series of potential biological active acyl hydrazone derivatives containing ibuprofen moiety (compounds 4a–4p) was synthesized by the condensation of ibuprofen hydrazone with aromatic aldehydes using conventional and microwave irradiation methods. The microwave method was found to be successful with nearly the same or higher yields and shorter reaction time, and it was more environmentally friendly compared to the conventional heating method. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, and APT-NMR spectroscopy.

Supported catalysts are of great interest because of their wide range of application possibilities. In this study, firstly silica spheres were synthesized and then platinum and nickel nanoparticles were incorporated on this silica by microwave irradiation, which is an efficient technique for catalyst preparation. Synthesized silica spheres and catalysts were characterized by BET, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and transmission electron microscopy techniques.

2,2’-[1,4(1,3)-Phenylenedi(methylene)]bis-1H-benzimidazole derivatives were obtained from the reaction of 1,4- or (1,3)-bisiminoester hydrochloride and o-phenylenediamine derivatives under microwave irradiation. Ester and hydrazide derivatives were prepared from a free NH group. This practical method revealed good results for yield, reaction time, and quick isolation of products.
