Ebook "The white river badlands: Geology and paleontology" preserve the entire late Eocene through the middle Oligocene, roughly 35-30 million years ago and more than thirty million years after non-avian dinosaurs became extinct. The fossils provide a detailed record of a period of abrupt global cooling and what happened to creatures who lived through it. This book is a comprehensive reference to the sediments and fossils of the Big Badlands, and also touches on National Park Service management policies that help protect such significant fossils.

They show high-K calc-alkaline affinity. On primitive-normalized spider diagrams, negative anomalies of Ba, Nb, Sr, P, and Ti and positive anomalies of Pb are noteworthy. Their chondrite-normalized REE patterns are characterized by strongly fractionated patterns with demonstrative negative Eu anomaly, whereby middle REE are not fractionated relative to the heavy REE. These geochemical features suggest a fractionating mineral assemblage of feldspar, apatite, and biotite without significant involvement of garnet.

Rogerella aydimi Gallardo-Garcia and Serra-Kiel was described from the Priabonian Haluf Member of the Aydim Formation, Oman. Based on new finds from the Bartonian Hoya Formation of SE Turkey and the Jahrum Formation of Iran, its taxonomic status is discussed herein. It is concluded that it represents a species of Dictyoconus with a simple subepidermal network (1 rafter, 1 intercalary beam) below a thin epiderm. The stratigraphic range of D. aydimi known thus far is Bartonian-Priabonian or Shallow Benthic Zone 17– 20. The distribution of D.

The middle-upper Eocene Kırkgeçit Formation, the fossil content of which is the subject of this study, is deposited in a back-arc basin controlled by block-faulting. The Kırkgeçit basin is interpreted as being formed under an extensional regime related to convergence between the Anatolian plate in the north and the Arabian plate in the south.

The shallow-marine Eocene Soğucak Limestone and Oligocene Ceylan Formation were studied in the northern and eastern parts of the Thrace Basin with detailed biometric analysis of the full spectrum of larger benthic foraminifera (mainly nummulitids and orthophragmines).

Sedimentary properties of the middle−upper eocene formations in Çardak, Burdur and İncesu, SW Turkey
The integration of sedimentological, palynological and palaeontological data in three diff erent outcrops in SW Turkey provides a clearer understanding of the palaeoenvironments in an area between the Çardak-Dazkırı Basin and the Isparta region during the Middle–Late Eocene. In this study, the Çardak-Dazkırı (Başçeşme Formation), Burdur (Varsakyayla Formation) and Isparta (Kayıköy Formation) areas have been studied for facies and facies associations.

A significant magnitude of tectonic feature deflection away from the principal stress direction was investigated. This was caused by oblique spatial orientation of coarse-grained sediment bodies, principally large conglomerate and sand-filled deep-water slope channels, in an otherwise mud-rich sedimentary section.

Outcrops of the Middle Eocene in northern Egypt represent a Tethyan reef-rimmed carbonate platform with bedded innerplatform facies. The diagenesis of these outcrops was studied in detail. The facies are characterized by a reef core, back reef and outer lagoon, shoal, inner lagoon, and tidal flat carbonate sequences.

The obliteration of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean and collision of the microplates along the northern part of Turkey led to the development of the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan suture zone (IAESZ). After the collision of Pontides with the Central-Anatolian Crystalline Complex (CACC) in the Paleocene, a new phase of extension and volcanism concomitantly developed along the northern (Almus; Pontides) and southern (Yıldızeli; CACC) sides and along the IAESZ during the Middle Eocene time interval.

An abnormally odd and rare occurrence of a basaltic body has been discovered in the middle of the Gercus Formation within the large, double-plunging NW-SE trending Bekhair Anticline to the north of Duhok city, northern Iraq. This is the first discovery of such a volcanic body within the widely exposed Gercus Formation in northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and western Iran.
