In this study, we performed RNA-sequencing on the invader M. micrantha and its native congener M. cordata in China, to unravel the genetic basis underlying the strong invasiveness of M. micrantha. For a more robust comparison, another non-invasive congener M. cordifolia was also sequenced and compared.

Invasion by alien perennial weed Mikania micrantha has created a serious problems in Southeast Asia. This climbing vine possesses very fast growth rate and could multiply from seed and vegetative parts. It climbs on other plants, create a dense cover and block sunlight thereby damage or kill the other plant. It compete for water, soil nutrient and release allele-chemicals inhibiting growth of plants. The weed creates economic loss to plantation, horticultural crops, displaces and kills native vegetation. It is designated as one of the worst invasive plants of the world. M.

The open sunny patches of the forest of upper Assam had been tremendously infested by the noxious alien vine Mikania micrantha and might be the prime factor for forest conversion. Present study was carried out in Bherjan-Borajan-Podumoni Wild Life Sanctuary situated in Tinsukia district of Assam. Extensive field surveys were conducted during the period 2014-2018 for evaluation of changes of microenvironment component viz. soil nutrient status, soil temperature, light interception and biomass production due to infestation of M. micrantha.

A total of 17 endophytic actinomycete strains were obtained from 6 medicinal plants of Mizoram, Northeast, India. 16S rRNA results showed 13 (73.3%) of the isolates belonged to the genus Streptomyces, 2 (13.3%) were Nocardiopsis, 1 (6.6%) were Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens and 1 (6.6%) Actinobacteria bacterium. The highest number of endophytic actinomycetes was isolated from root tissue of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. (29.4%) followed by stem of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. and rhizome of Costus speciosus (J. Konig).

Changes of vegetation pattern of Dilli Reserve Forest under Sivasagar Forest Division, Assam has been studied owing to invasion of aggressive smothering vine Mikania micrantha during 2014-2017. Dipterocarpus retusus was the predominant element in the upper canopy layer of natural forest site which grown gregariously in well drained alluvial plains of the foothills of Patkai range having IVI of 13.19 followed by Mesua ferrea (10.76), Artocarpus chama (10.63) and Vatica lanceaefolia (8.77).

The study was to assess the effect of feeding Japan hlo (Mikania micrantha Kunth.) in ‘meal form’ (JLM) as protein substitute on haemato-biochemical profiles of growing LWY pigs. Sixteen weaned LWY pigs were assigned four dietary treatments with JLM at 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% level as substitute of soyabean meal (SBM) at an amount on equivalent protein basis for a period of 75 days. For haemato-biochemical parameters, blood were collected at 0, 30th, 60th, 75th days of experiment and analysed utilising commercial analytical kits and following standard procedures.

Weed problems are very complex and serious in coffee plantations of North East Region of India because of favourable agro climatic situations for weed growth. The study on emergence and population dynamics of weeds will help to develop efficient weed management strategy. Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017 at the Experimental Garden for Plantation Crops of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam with the objective to study the weed dynamics in rejuvenated robusa coffee.
