  • Azolla is a free floating, rapidly growing aquatic fern on water surface. It is one of the most nutritive aquatic plants, owing to its high protein and carotenoid contents and of generally good amino acid profile. Traditional supplements based on oilseed cakes are expensive and cannot fulfill the required nutrients to animals. Forage-based economical feeding strategies are required to reduce production cost of quality livestock products. Productivity of dairy animals largely depends of efficient feeding management.

Data were collected from a primary field survey of the selected households by personally interviewing the household heads (100 farmers) with the help of a comprehensive and pre-tested questionnaire specifically designed for the study. Economic impact of mastitis was assessed by calculating production loss (milk yield loss and discarded milk) during mastitis, post treatment milk yield loss for 30 days and cost of treatment. There was a total economic loss of Rs.

  • Milk is known to carrier both pathogens as well as spoilage microorganism. This results in the economic loss of producers/processors/consumers and can pose a serious public health concern. Spoilage microorganisms group can degrade milk components, creating negative sensory attributes, decreasing processed product shelf life and adversely affecting fermented dairy product yield. Some microorganisms are beneficial and carrying out desirable fermentation in milk (prevent spoilage through fermentation).

This condition is associated with a significant reduction in milk yield, increased costs of production and deteriorated milk quality. In the present study a total number of 40 bovine mastitis milk samples were collected to isolate and identify the Pseudomonas aeruginosa. All the samples were inoculated into nutrient broth which was further cultured on agar plates. Colonies showing typical Pseudomonas morphological characteristics were processed for biochemical analysis.
