In ebook Uranium: War, energy, and the rock that shaped the world" uranium is a common element in the earth's crust and the only naturally occurring mineral with the power to end all life on the planet. After World War II, it reshaped the global order-whoever could master uranium could master the world. In Uranium, Tom Zoellner takes readers around the globe in this intriguing look at the mineral that can sustain life or destroy it.

Schizophyllan is a natural polysaccharide that has shown great potential as enhanced oil recovery (EOR) polymer for high-temperature, high-salinity reservoirs. Nevertheless, the adsorption behavior of schizophyllan over carbonate minerals remains ambiguous element towards its EOR applications.

Beta Dose Rate heterogeneity is a recognized source of uncertainty when applying luminescence dating to heterogeneous samples, such as coarse crystalline rocks and clast-rich sediments. Simulations have shown that a combination of a heterogeneous distribution of minerals and radioactive elements can lead to complex dose distributions, overdispersion and potentially to bias in equivalent dose determinations.

Rare-earth elements (REEs) are indispensable in various applications ranging from catalysis to batteries and they are commonly found from phosphate minerals. Xenon is an excellent exogenous NMR probe for materials because it is inert and its 129Xe chemical shift is very sensitive to its local physical or chemical environment.

Despite titanium (Ti) and zirconium (Zr) minerals being critical, often irreplaceable, and generally unrecyclable components of modern materials, there is very little understanding on the constraints affecting their availability within the public literature. And while co/by-products such as hafnium (Hf), vanadium (V), garnet, and rare earth elements (REE) add significant value to the extraction of these minerals, they suffer from the same level of recyclability and understanding as Ti and Zr minerals.

Lactating dairy cows are the greatest livestock contributor of methane, a major global greenhouse gas (GHG). However, good feeding management with adequate mineral intake can offers an effective approach to maintaining high levels of milk production and the health of dairy cows over the entire course of lactation, while also helping to reduce methane emission.

The cells of the entire body, including the skeletal system, especially of young animals, may derive from the bone marrow in which they multiply. Therefore, it is important to assess whether the diet and quality of life of deer have a significant impact on the elemental composition of bone and bone marrow, which can directly affect their health and growth.

Studies on the effect of different nutritional compounds on antibiotic activity revealed that the highest antibacterial activity was obtained when 1% starch (w/v) was used as the sole carbon source along with mineral trace elements. Extraction and purification of TBG19NRA1 culture supernatant led to the isolation of a pure molecule with good antibacterial activity. The compound has been identified as the cyclic polyether lasalocid A on the basis IR, MS and 13C NMR data interpretation and comparison with reference data from literature.

Puccinellia tenuiflora is the most saline-alkali tolerant plant in the Songnen Plain, one of the three largest soda saline-alkali lands worldwide. Here, we investigated the physicochemical properties of saline-alkali soils from the Songnen Plain and sequenced the transcriptomes of germinated P. tenuiflora seedlings under long-term treatment (from seed soaking) with saline-alkali soil extracts.
