Ebook "Geology and mineral resources of Nigeria (Lecture notes in Earth sciences, Volume 120)" is divided into three parts. Part 1 discusses the geology of the crystalline rocks and their regional distribution while the sedimentary basins constitute the subject of Part 2. Part 3 takes the mineral resources of Nigeria one on one, their geological environment, mode of occurrence, localities and where possible the reserves estimation.

Vitamin D deficiency is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but its impact on bone health remains understudied. Methods: We collected data from CKD patients with eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73m², including clinical information, 25- hydroxyvitamin D levels, and bone mineral density (BMD) measurements using DEXA between August 2020 and August 2021.

Bovine milk provides important minerals, essential for human nutrition and dairy product quality. For changing the mineral composition of the milk to improve dietary needs in human nutrition and technological properties of milk, a thorough understanding of the genetics underlying milk mineral contents is important.

Osteoporosis is a complex disease with a strong genetic contribution. A recently published genomewide association study (GWAS) for estimated bone mineral density (eBMD) identified 1103 independent genomewide significant association signals. Most of these variants are non-coding, suggesting that regulatory effects may drive many of the associations.

The values of potentially mineralizable N estimated using first order kinetics model related well to the observed cumulative MN at 16th week. No significant difference was observed between CF and SRF treatments for available P content in the 2nd week. Significantly higher P content was observed in CF compared to SRF treatment in the 4th week, whereas in the 8th week, some SRFs released significantly higher content than CF.

Lecture Geotechnical engineering: Chapter 4 - One pit mining. After completing this section, you will understand the knowledge about using geological information from drilled holes, the value of the desired mineral in each block is estimated. The cost of mining each particular block is also determined, therefore you can designate a profit value for each block in the mine.

Osteoporosis, a disease characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD), is an important health problem in Mexico. BMD is a highly heritable trait, with heritability estimates of 50-85%. Several candidate genes have been evaluated to identify those involved in BMD variation and the etiology of osteoporosis.

The FRAX® tool estimates the risk of a fragility fracture among the population and many countries have been evaluating its performance among their populations since its creation in 2007. The purpose of this study is to update the first FRIDEX cohort analysis comparing FRAX with the bone mineral density (BMD) model, and its predictive abilities.

The Digital X-ray Radiogrammetry (DXR) method measures the cortical bone thickness in the shafts of the metacarpals and has demonstrated its relevance in the assessment of hand bone loss caused by rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of this study was to validate a novel approach of the DXR method in comparison with the original version considering patients with RA.

Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements are widely used to assess fracture risk. However, the finding that some fracture patients had high BMD together with the low contribution of drugs to osteoporosis suggests that bone strength factors other than BMD contribute to bone quality.

Areal bone mineral density (aBMD) estimated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is used to estimate peak bone mass, define osteoporosis and predict fracture. However, as aBMD is calculated as bone mineral content (BMC) divided by the scanned area, aBMD displays an inverse relationship with bone size.

Nutritional knowledge for maintaining good health is necessarily required for the upliftment of country. Food products including cereal, pulses, fruits, vegetables, milk etc. contains high amount of protein, vitamins, minerals, calcium, carbohydrates, calories, dietary fibre and fats and have numerous therapeutic benefits. Due to their health beneficial properties they were incorporated with other ingredients or treated with processing technologies and turned into a new product and projected for estimation of moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrate, calcium and iron.

The present investigation was carried out to study effect of processing on the seeds which were used for inclusion in the energy bars of sports person. The seeds selected for the study were Flax, Chia, Pumpkin and Finger millet seeds. Proximate parameters and mineral estimation were done to assess the nutritional profile of all the seeds. The result shows that protein content of the seeds were increased significantly during germination while it was decreased significantly during roasting and popping.

Agriculture is going through a profound revolution worldwide due to increasing world demand for food, higher costs of energy and other inputs, environmental pollution problems, and instability of cropping systems. The importance of plant functioning can be realized from the facts that knowledge of mineral nutrition of plants has opened new vistas for fertilizer practices. The detection of deficiencies and toxicity of particular mineral nutrient element has enabled us to make adequate soil amendments and root nutrient absorption for better plant growth.

This study performs an integrated method using thin section and well log data to determine rock fabrics and their relationship with the rock pore system in Miocene carbonate reservoirs of well RR02, southern Song Hong basin, Vietnam. By thin section analysis, mineral components and pore types of carbonate rocks were determined, creating a basis for carbonate classification and grouping samples into different petrophysical classes.

Present study estimated alteration of certain plasma metabolites (glucose, urea nitrogen, cholesterol, NEFA and NEFA: cholesterol ratio) and minerals (Ca, P, Zn, Cu and Mn) in healthy calves (n=96), calf with diarrhoea (n=32) and calf with pneumonia (n=32). Plasma glucose was significantly lower both in calves with diarrhoea and pneumonia as compared to health calves (P0.05).
