Ebook "Nutrient use efficiency in plants: Concepts and approaches" presents a broad overview of topics related to improvement of nutrient use efficiency of crops. Nutrient use efficiency (NUE) is a measure of how well plants use the available mineral nutrients. It can be defined as yield (biomass) per unit input (fertilizer, nutrient content). NUE is a complex trait: it depends on the ability to take up the nutrients from the soil, but also on transport, storage, mobilization, usage within the plant, and even on the environment.

Mineral nutrients are essential to plant growth and development. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of mineral fertilizer doses and N:P:K ratio on growth, yield, and raw material quality of the tea variety PH10 to improve the production of high-quality tea products. The field experiment was conducted from 2015 to 2017.

Broccoli is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, free from calories and fat necessary for a healthy life. The production of broccoli is poor as compared to the developed world because of different biotic and abiotic stress. The nutritional stress is increasing with the passage of time because of low soil fertility and numerous stresses occur in the root zone of plants which reduce the uptake of minerals.

The results showed that SOM content was higher in horizon A, whereas mineral matrix elements Al, Fe, and Mg contents were higher in horizon B. Ca and P contents gradually decreased with soil depth due to the influence of fertilizer. Three types of trace element concentration profiles were identified: (1) decrease with depth for Cd and Hg

The obtained results showed that the variety Serw-4 was the best as it recorded the highest values, for most of the studied parameters, i.e. the obtained values of seed yield/plant and seed yield/hectare were (53.11 g and 3034.57 kg) and (56.20 g and 3211.28 kg), in both cultivation seasons, respectively.

The values of potentially mineralizable N estimated using first order kinetics model related well to the observed cumulative MN at 16th week. No significant difference was observed between CF and SRF treatments for available P content in the 2nd week. Significantly higher P content was observed in CF compared to SRF treatment in the 4th week, whereas in the 8th week, some SRFs released significantly higher content than CF.

Biofertilizer is immobile, an unclear term. It can simply be established that biofertilizers are identified as plant extracts, composted municipal waste, and various microbial mixtures with unidentified components and chemical fertilizer formulations supplemented with organic compounds. Likewise, the scientific literature has a very open interpretation of the term biofertilizer, on behalf of everything from fertilizers to plant extracts.

In general, the material’s properties sharply decrease under the pressure of ground conditions and the presence of salt minerals and fertilizer in the soil. Uncontrolled release of water is one of the main factors limiting their application in agriculture. Therefore, the target of this work is to determine the conditions for the synthesis of SAPs materials based on CMC with high water absorption while ensuring consistent gel stability. The BioSAP products are characterized by their properties and their ability to retain water in soil.

Organic manures in agriculture add much needed organic and mineral matter to the soil. The organic matter added is an indispensable component of soil, and plays an important role in maintenance and improvement of soil fertility and productivity. The proper management of these makes it possible to increase the efficiency of use of soil and added nutrients.

These symbiotic microorganisms have extensive mycelial network and can increase the transport of other mineral elements such as zinc and copper. VAM fungi can play an important role in enhancing P availability to plants in deficient soils and can save P-fertilizer by 25-30% (Somani et al., 1990).

Nitrogen is the key nutrient factor that influences soil fertility and productivity. It is the mineral nutrient that exists in different forms, but nitrate form is the most preferred form by plants. Irrespective of the form in which N is applied to soil, it undergoes transformation viz. mineralization (ammonification, nitrification), denitrification etc. by enzymes produced by micro organisms.
