  • In Vietnam, there is diversity in the writing systems of different ethnic groups with various characteristics, with 34/53 ethnic minorities in Vietnam each having their own scripts, some ethnic groups use more than one script. Decision No.153/CP promulgated by the Prime Minister on 20th August, 1969 (amended by the Council of Ministers on 22nd February, 1980) “Refer to construct, improve and apply the ethnic minorities writing systems”, has played a big role in this process.

  • This indicated that although the Lolo and Lahu ethnic groups both belong to the Tibeto-Burman language group, the genetic distance between them was no closer than the genetic distances between them and the Kinh group of the Viet-Muong (Austroasiatic) language group. This study was the first research on the Dloop region of the Lolo and Lahu populations in Vietnam.   • This paper presents a survey the medicinal plants and their traditional use by Muong and Dao ethnic minority groups in Ba Vi National park, Vietnam. A total of 257 medicinal plant species belonging to 204 genera and 81 families are used by Dao and Muong people in Ba Vi National Park. These species are used for treatment of 63 different diseases. Of them, the Dao ethnic group used 144 species, the Muong ethnic group used 30 species, and 83 species were used by both ethnic minority groups.

  • This paper is an attempt to look at Vietnam’s current higher education system in terms of access and equity. Using logistic regression model and data from the Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey 2016, the paper also examines the factors explaining the enrolment in higher education in Vietnam. It shows that there has been a wide gap in the access between the rich and the poor, and between the Kinh/Hoa majority and the ethnic minority group in Vietnam. Therefore, public policies to assist disadvantaged groups getting access to higher education will be needed.

  • The mountainous region of northern Vietnam is potential to develop agriculture, forestry, hydro power, minerals, tourism and border gate economic zones.   • The archaeological data have convincingly proved that the Dong Son (Đông Sơn) culture resulted from the indigenous development of the previous pre-Đông Sơn cultural systems in the basins of the Hồng, Mã and Cả rivers, closely associating people and ancient Vietnamese culture.   • Vietnam is a multi-ethnic country with a majority and 53 minority groups, among which the majority Kinh and the Muong belong to the Viet - Muong linguistic group and reside mainly in the plains and at the feet of mountains, with convenient geographical conditions and transport. Since the Party and State initiated the Doi moi (Renovation) process in 1986, the cultural exchange and absorption between the two communities has been increasingly promoted, with more and more Kinh - Muong marriages, that diversifies the picture of ethnic culture in Vietnam.
