Monitoring the adequacy of spontaneous breathing is a major patient safety concern in the postoperative setting. Monitoring is particularly important for obese patients, who are at a higher risk for post-surgical respiratory complications and often have increased metabolic demand due to excess weight.

Thoracic surgery requires the effective collapse of the non-ventilated lung. In the majority of cases, we accomplished, accelerated lung collapse using a double-lumen tube (DLT). We hypothesized that using the twominute disconnection technique with a DLT would improve lung collapse during subsequent one-lung ventilation.

Although general anesthetics depress spontaneous respiration, the comprehensive effect of general anesthetics on respiratory function remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the effects of general anesthetics on spontaneous respiration in non-intubated mice with different types and doses of general anesthetic.

Mechanical power (MP) of artifcial ventilation, the energy transferred to the respiratory system, is a chief determinant of adequate oxygenation and decarboxylation. Calculated MP, the product of applied airway pressure and minute ventilation, may serve as an estimate of respiratory muscle workload when switching to spontaneous breathing.

Activities of daily living in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are limited by exertional dyspnea and reduced exercise capacity. The aims of the study were to examine longitudinal changes in peak oxygen uptake (V̇O2peak), peak minute ventilation (V̇Epeak) and breathing pattern over four years in a group of COPD patients, and to examine potential explanatory variables of change.

To evaluate the results of esophagectomy and operative technique of minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal cancer at 103 Military Hospital. Subjects and methods: A retrospective, descriptive study combined with a prospective study on 58 patients with esophageal cancer from 1 - 2010 to 8 - 2017. Results: Mean age was 51.89 ± 8.92 (32 - 74), male/female ratio was 13.5/1. Mean operation time was 325.44 ± 66.50 minutes, thoracic step time was 138.44 ± 41.31 minutes, mean blood loss volume during the entire operation was 159.79 ± 55.25 mL. Laparoscopic surgery accounted for 74.1%.

One level below Terminal 3 is Copenhagen Airport Kastrup station, with direct connection to the Central Station every 10 minutes and to Malmø in Sweden every 20 minutes. The station has many of the architectural features of Terminal 3 - an elegant glass roof over the platforms and tracks, reflecting the distinctive glass structures of the Terminal building itself. It provides a maxi- mum of daylight and natural ventilation.

Only a few studies consider the increased ventilation rate associated with active modes. One study [22] showed that the minute ventilation rate (product of the breathing rate and the volume of air per breath) of cyclists was on average twice that of car commuters (an increase from 12 L min-1 to 24 L min-1 ) and two studies [21, 23] suggest 31 L min-1 , and 40-60 L min-1 for cyclists, respectively. No studies could be found specifically in relation to the exposure of commuters who run to work, though one would expect these to be comparable or higher than those of...
