  • Establishment of sister chromatid cohesion N-acetyltransferase 2 (ESCO2) is involved in the mitotic S-phase adhesins acetylation and is responsible for bridging two sister chromatids. However, present ESCO2 cancer research is limited to a few cancers.

  • Ebook "Cell division machinery and disease" critically evaluates the causal link between cell division machinery and disease. Further, it identifies key open questions in the field and the means for exploring them. Throughout the various chapters, internationally known contributors present the evidence for and against a causal link between key elements of the cell division machinery and diseases such as cancer, neuropathologies, aging, and infertility.

  • Ebook "Cell cycle synchronization: Methods and protocols (Second edition)" provides detailed protocols on the theoretical background of cell cycle synchronization procedures and instructions on how to implement these techniques. The chapters in Cell Cycle Synchronization: Methods and Protocols, Second Edition cover subjects such as: physical fractionations including centrifugal elutriation of healthy and apoptotic cells, and nuclei of mammalian cells; large scale mitotic cell synchronization; chromosome formation during fertilization in eggs;...

  • The potential genotoxicity of cola- containing soft drink was investigated by Vicia faba assay. Root tips were treated with different concentrations of the cola- containing soft drink (100% and 50%) at 24 hours exposure. The concentration exposure affected the mitotic division in root tip cells and produced various chromosomal aberrations. The abnormalities scored were, bridges, fragments, lobulated nuclei, sticky metaphase and sticky anaphase. Exposure to soft drinks inhibited the cell cycle in a concentration dependent manner.

  • Temozolomide (TMZ) is the most widely used drug to treat glioblastoma (GBM), which is the most common and aggressive primary tumor of the Central Nervous System and one of the hardest challenges in oncotherapy. TMZ is an alkylating agent that induces autophagy, apoptosis and senescence in GBM cells.

  • Kif18A, the kinesin-8 motor protein, plays an essential role in regulating alignment of bi-oriented chromosomes at the midzone during mitosis. Kinesin proteins, including Kif18A, are often deregulated in many types of cancers and are thought to play a critical role in cancer progression.

  • A major step in the higher plant life cycle is the decision to leave the mitotic cell cycle and begin the progression through the meiotic cell cycle that leads to the formation of gametes. The molecular mechanisms that regulate this transition and early meiosis remain largely unknown.

  • Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of small non-coding RNAs (sncRNAs) can influence sncRNA function and target gene expression to mediate the risk of certain diseases. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic relevance of sncRNA SNPs for colorectal cancer, which has not been well characterized to date.

  • Herein, we describe a novel method that addresses the above-mentioned problems, namely, a semi-intact cell assay coupled with green fluorescence protein (GFP)-visualization techniques. By using the semi-intact cell system, we can observe the morphological changes that occur in “preexisting” organelles during mitosis more easily, and, at the same time, can investigate the effects of exogenously added antibodies, drugs, and recombinant proteins on the process.

  • The climacteric, or perimenopause, is that phase of the aging process in which a woman passes from reproductive to nonreproductive capability (generally age 45–55 years). The perimenopause normally lasts 4 years and is marked by altered ovarian function (e.g., cycle length increases or decreases and anovulation is more common). Menopause is defined as permanent cessation of menstruation following the characteristic altered ovarian function. The physiology of the climacteric requires a brief review of ovarian physiology.
