Cloud point extraction (CPE), which is the most popular coacervate-based extraction method, was utilized for the separation and preconcentration of trace amounts of cadmium, lead, and nickel. Quinalizarin was used as complexing agent and Triton X-114 was used as surfactant. After extraction, analyte ions were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The detection limits (3 s) of 1.8 µg L −1 for Cd(II), 3.2 µg L −1 for Pb(II), and 2.8 µg L −1 for Ni(II) were obtained using 50 mL of solutions.

Carmoisine (E122) is a synthetic azo dye that is generally used to give a red color to food products. In this work, a sensitive and simple method was developed for the determination of carmoisine based on cloud point extraction. To obtain the optimum conditions for the extraction efficiency of carmoisine, the effects of different analytical parameters such as H2 SO4 concentration, concentration of Triton X-114, and equilibrium temperature were studied. Trends in non-invasive measurements of blood hemoglobin (Hb) may be useful for identifying the need for transfusion in the perioperative period. Methods: Crystalloid fluid (5–20 mL/kg) was administered intravenously or by mouth to 30 volunteers and 33 surgical patients in five non-randomized clinical studies where Hb was measured on 915 occasions by non-invasive (Radical-7™) and invasive methodology. The hemodilution curves were compared by volume kinetic analysis and linear regression, with the slope and scattering of the data as key outcome measures.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines CAUTI for those patients who have an indwelling catheter in place for 48 h or more and symptoms such as fever or chills, new onset of burning pain, urgency or frequency if not catheterized at that point of time, change in urine character, flank or suprapubic pain or tenderness or change or decrease in mental or functional status in patients. CAUTI is usually presence of at least 10³ colony-forming units (cfu)/mL of 1 or 2 micro-organisms by urine culture.

Studies were undertaken to find out the effect of inoculum load of post harvest pathogen (Penicillium islandicum) on disease initiation, threshold point and population build up of blue mould rot in Indian gooseberry. Inoculations were made on the fruits of Indian gooseberry at five concentrations (10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 spores/ml.). The disease initiation commenced after 54 hrs. of inoculation with inoculum load of 500 spores/ml followed by 200 spores/ml where the initiation of disease was observed after 72 hrs.

The present study was conducted to investigate the influence of sequential addition of estradiol-17β on in vitro development of preantral follicles (PFs’) in sheep. Preantral follicles isolated from the ovarian cortical slices using micro dissection method were cultured for six days in Bicarbonate buffered Tissue culture medium 199B (TCM 199B) or in a standard culture medium supplemented with Estradiol-17β (5 ng/ml) at different points during the culture period.

Evaluation of Cardiac Troponin -cTnI was under taken in Nineteen Cross bred diary cows. These are aged between 2.5 to 8 years and presented with the history of jowl and brisket edema to the Cardiology Referral Clinic, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, Thanjavur from June 2018 to May 2019.All the cases were confirmed to be affected by TRP. cTnI was assessed using Point-of-Care immunoassay issuing i-STAT handheld analyser. The affected cows had elevated cTnI (0.10 ± 0.034 ng / ml) than healthy cows (0.027 ± 0.016 ng / ml) (P< 0.05).

Hand hygiene is the leading measure to reduce the incidence of health care associated infections (HAIs). Although the techniques involved are simple, compliance is poor worldwide. This study was undertaken to determine the level of knowledge on hand hygiene among medical students so that appropriate measures can be taken to promote compliance. This study was conducted in Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute from June to July 2018 among medical students using WHO hand hygiene questionnaire.

We investigate automatic classification of speculative language (‘hedging’), in biomedical text using weakly supervised machine learning. Our contributions include a precise description of the task with annotation guidelines, analysis and discussion, a probabilistic weakly supervised learning model, and experimental evaluation of the methods presented. We show that hedge classification is feasible using weakly supervised ML, and point toward avenues for future research.

Given the new unusual and usual event models, both adapted from the general usual event model, the HMM topology is changed with one more state. Hence the cur- rent HMM has 2 states, one representing the usual events and one representing the first detected unusual event. The Viterbi algorithm is then used to find the best possible state sequence which could have emitted the observation sequence, according to the maximum likelihood (ML) cri- terion (Figure 2, step 3). Transition points, which define new segments, are detected using the current HMM topol- ogy and parameters.
