Mobile advisory

TNAU Paddy expert system is a mobile app for paddy that covers cultivation practices, nursery management, irrigation, crop nutrition, pest and disease management, harvest and postharvest technologies, schemes and marketing information and also it provide advisories to the farmers. This paddy expert system was developed by mobile seva and released on January 24, 2017.

In this view, a study was conducted to analyze constraints faced by farmers in using KMAS in Banaskantha district of Gujarat state, India. A total of 123 respondents constituted sample size were selected through multistage sampling technique. The data collection was done with the help of structured schedule by personal interview of the respondents.

The use of KMAS by farmer-subscriber is affected by their socio-economic status. So keeping these points in mind the study was mainly focused to reveal the socio-economic variables associated with the farmers of Banaskantha district.

The present study was carried out in Warangal district of Telangana state by selecting the 60 beneficiary farmers of mobile phone based agro-advisory services. The specific objectives of the study were to know the usefulness and perception towards mobile phone based agro advisories. The results showed that 48.33 per cent of respondents indicated as mobile phone based agro-advisories were moderately useful and the majority (50.00%) of the respondents had positive perception towards the mobile phone based agro-advisories.

The present study was an attempt to measure the e-readiness level of the farmers as a part of PhD research work at the Division of Agriculture Extension, IARI, New Delhi using e-readiness index developed for the purpose. Data were gathered from about 435 farmers (270 users and 165 non users of ICT based extension service) from Andhra Pradesh (includes parts of present Telangana), Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka states. Results shown that, majority of the mobile advisory beneficiaries (95.00%) and community radio listeners (93.30%) were less e-ready.

The agriculture sector benefits more from mobile phones in the developing countries as it saves money, time and offers accurate advantage for farmers. The mobile phone system can be used to alert villagers about disease outbreaks and other important agricultural information. Many of the farmers suffer from lack of up to date, accurate market price information because of their remote location, or simply because they don‘t know how and where to get trustworthy information. A study was undertaken to assess the potential and use of mobile phones by farmers.

The study sought to identify the constraints faced by the farmers in using Kisan Mobile Advisory Services (KMAS) in Uttara Kananda district of Karnataka State, registered under http://mkisan.gov.in portal through ICARKrishi Vigyan Kendra, Uttara Kannada, Sirsi. Total of 110 respondents were selected for the study, 10 each from 11 talukas in the district. Factor analysis was used to identify the major constraints that lie inherent in the set of 10 specific constraints that were presented before the respondents for their rankings on a four-point continuum (0 to 3).

From latur district Latur, Ausa and Renapur tahsils were selected purposively because more number of farmers in these tahsils were using mobile based agro-advisory service. Proportionate sampling method used in selection of respondents, thus total sample size was one hundred and twenty respondents. One shot case study method of ex-post-facto research design was adopted for this study.
