Studying leaves of aquatic and terrestrial populations of Phragmites australis grown on the bank of the Venetian strait of the Dnipro River in Kyiv (Ukraine) for establishing the role of bulliform cells in the mechanisms of plant resistance to moderate soil drought were studied. Bulliform (motor) cells participate in the twisting and folding of leaves during drought and strong sunlight. The study of bulliform cells in the leaves of the aquatic and terrestrial populations of P.

A new class of 2-[4-(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)phenyl]-1H-benzimidazoles (13–22) were synthesized via cyclocondensation reaction of the substituted 1,2-phenylenediamines (1,4–12) and 1-(4-formylpheny)-1H-benzimidazole (3). The synthesized compounds were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities against S. aureus, methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Candida albicans by the tube dilution method. Compounds 13, 15, 18, 20, and 21 have moderate antifungal activity against C. albicans.

Powdery mildew caused by the fungal pathogen Erysiphe necator is a global disease that reduces yield and quality in grapes (Vitis vinifera L.). Most grape cultivars are susceptible to this pathogen and thus the selection of powdery mildew resistant cultivars is a major objective of grape breeding programs. In this study, we evaluated powdery mildew resistance of a diverse set of 28 commonly cultivated local and international V. vinifera cultivars after artificial inoculations with Erysiphe necator.

NH3 adsorption and desorption behavior of a commercial Cu-chabazite (CHA) NH3 selective catalytic reduction (NH3 -SCR) catalyst was studied in the presence and absence of H2O. NH3 uptake values at various adsorption temperatures were obtained during various steps of the adsorption and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) experiments. Total NH3 uptake decreased from 4.6 to 1.6 g NH3/L catalyst when the adsorption temperature was increased from 50 to 300◦C.

Fusarium circinatum, the causal agent of pitch canker disease, poses a serious threat to several Pinus species affecting plantations and nurseries. Although Pinus pinaster has shown moderate resistance to F. circinatum, the molecular mechanisms of defense in this host are still unknown.

Sheath blight (SB), caused by Rhizoctonia solani, is a common rice disease worldwide. Currently, rice cultivars with robust resistance to R. solani are still lacking. To provide theoretic basis for molecular breeding of R. solani-resistant rice cultivars, the changes of transcriptome profiles in response to R. solani infection were compared between a moderate resistant cultivar (Yanhui-888, YH) and a susceptible cultivar (Jingang-30, JG).

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the cause of Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR), is a host generalist necrotrophic fungus that can cause major yield losses in chickpea (Cicer arietinum) production. This study used RNA sequencing to conduct a time course transcriptional analysis of S. sclerotiorum gene expression during chickpea infection.

Antibiotic-resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria are increasingly prevalent in hospitals and the community. Acute exacerbations of COPD (AE-COPD) often result in administration of antibiotics although more than half of exacerbations are associated with detection of respiratory viruses and potentially pathogenic bacteria can only be detected in 20-30% of cases.

The present investigation was aimed to identify the resistant germplasms against Colletotrichum capsici in vitro by artificial inoculation. Ten isolates of Colletotrichum capsici collected from different regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada (Maharashtra), Bidar district (Karnataka) and Guntur district (Andra Pradesh) showing varied type of pathogenic ability against chilli variety Jayanti and designated as strongly, moderately and weakly pathogenic on the basis of per cent leaf area covered by the disease.

In the present study, seven okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) cultivars were evaluated for their resistance against M. incognita under field condition. Among seven cultivars none of the cultivars were found completely resistant. The cultivars ArkaAbhay and Anoop were found to be moderately resistant to M. incognita with root-knot indices of 3.0 (11 to 30 galls) at 60 days after sowing and at harvest. Arkaanamika, Usha, Rashi-20, Akshay and Solar-10 were found susceptible to M. incognita with root-knot indices of 4.0 (31 to 100 galls) at 60 days after sowing and at harvest.

The field experiment on screening of tomato lines for GBNV infection was carried out Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Coimbatore. Totally 25 hybrids/varieties were screened in Rabi season during 2015. None of the varieties/hybrids screened were resistant or immune to GBNV during Rabi season. However, average disease incidence ranged from 7.55 to 25.25 percent indicating moderately resistant to highly susceptible.

Thirty varieties of turmeric Curcuma longa L. were screened in the field against Pythium aphanidermatum for one year during 2016-2017 at College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta, Y.S.R. Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. These varieties were also screened in lab and net house (pot) condition. Out of 30 varieties two varieties (Salem and Prathibha) showed resistance to rhizome rot and five (TCP-129, VK-9, IC-330113, IC-033007 and IC-212606) were moderately resistant, providing good material for developing rhizome rot resistant turmeric varieties.

Resistance against insect pests is a crucial trait for the stability and sustainability of pigeonpea production. A field trail was conducted to quantify relative tolerance and sensitivity in9 new long duration pigeonpea genotypes including local control against pod fly during Kharif2017-18 at the Entomological Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. In general, it was observed that none of the genotypes were found completely resistant to pests although these originated as least susceptible, moderately susceptible and highly susceptible.

Twenty rice genotypes which recorded resistant and moderately susceptible reaction against rice leaf folder were characterized by using SSR markers. Out of eleven primers of SSR markers tested, seven primers were found to be polymorphic in nature. A total of 123 amplified bands were seen with 78 % polymorphism with the primers RM 3691, RM 600, RM 14 and RM 228.
