Ebook "Deformation and flow of polymeric materials" describes the properties of single polymer molecules and polymeric materials and the methods how to characterize them. Molar masses, molar mass distributions and branching structure are discussed in detail. These properties are decisive for a deeper understanding of structure/properties relationships of polymeric materials. This book therefore describes and discusses them in detail.

Ebook "Studies on “perfect” hyperbranched chains free in solution and confined in a cylindrical pore" also reveals how the chain structure of amphiphilic hyperbranched block and graft copolymers affect their solution properties, including the establishments of several classic scaling laws that relate the chain size and the intrinsic viscosity to the overall molar mass and the subchain length, respectively. This work has led to numerous publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

Procedures for chitin nanofiber or nanocrystal extraction from Crustaceans modify the chitin structure significantly, through surface deacetylation, surface oxidation and/or molar mass degradation. Here, very mild conditions were used to disintegrate chitin fibril bundles and isolate low protein content individualized chitin nanofibers, and prepare nanostructured high-strength chitin membranes.

A viscometric study was carried out at 25 ◦C to assess the physical–chemical behavior in solution and the mean viscometric molar mass (M¯ v) of chitosan solutions with different deacetylation degrees, in two solvent mixtures: medium 1—acetic acid 0.3 mol/L and sodium acetate 0.2 mol/L; and medium 2—acetic acid 0.1 mol/L and sodium chloride 0.2 mol/L.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a ubiquitous polysaccharide with diverse biological functions. Is known that in the intestinal epithelium, the exogenous HA of molar mass ≥105 Da orally administered antagonizes TLR4 overexpression resulting from dysbiosis and promotes immunomodulation in multifactorial crosstalk, thus helping to treat or to prevent injuries.

The chain sequence of co-polymers strongly affects their physical properties. It is, therefore, of crucial importance for the development and final properties of novel materials. Currently however, few analytical methods are available to monitor the sequence of copolymers.

An efficient 2-component synthesis of a series of 3-(2-(substituted phenylamino)thiazol-4-yl)-2H -chromen-2- ones (3a–j) was achieved by the reaction of 3-(2-thiocyanatoacetyl)-2H -chromen-2-one (1) with a variety of suitably substituted anilines in 1:1 molar ratio in ethanol. The structures of the products were established by elemental analyses, and UV-vis, FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR, and mass spectroscopy. 3-(2-(4-Methylphenylamino)thiazol-4-yl)-2 H -chromen-2- one (3j) was further characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction study.

A series of binucleating Cu(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) complexes of bicompartmental ligands with ONO donors were prepared. The ligands were synthesized by the condensation of 5-substituted-3-phenyl-1H -indole-2-carboxyhydrazides and 4,6-diacetylresorcinol. The newly synthesized ligands and their complexes were characterized by elemental analysis and various spectral studies like IR, 1H NMR, ESI-mass, UV-Vis, ESR, thermal studies, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, and powder-XRD data.

Solvent-based polyurethanes and poly(urethane-acrylate)s were synthesized using phosphorus-containing polyester polyols in order to compare the thermal properties of different polymer types. Since the location of the phosphorus group might have vital importance when comparing the thermal properties, phosphorus groups were kept on the pendant chains in poly(urethane-acrylate)s using phosphorus-containing urethane macromonomers while they were kept on the backbone in polyurethanes.

The nucleophilic substitution reaction of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (N3P3Cl6, trimer) (1) with 4- hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde (2) has been investigated for the first time. 4′ -Oxy-1′ -naphthaldehyde substituted mono- (3), bis- (4), and tris- (5) cyclotriphosphazenes were obtained from the nucleophilic substitution of compound 1 with 2 in a 1:2 molar ratio in the presence of Cs2CO3 in acetone at reflux.

In this work, we studied the applicability of diffusion ordered nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (DOSY NMR) as an alternative method in determination of polystyrene molecular weight. DOSY NMR spectroscopy allows measuring the diffusion coefficient of molecule which directly depend on hydrodynamic radius and so on, average molar mass in weight (Mw).

The putative gene ofPlasmodium vivaxserine hydroxymethyltransferase (PvSHMT; EC 2.1.2.1) was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The purified enzyme was shown to be a dimeric protein with a monomeric molecular mass of 49 kDa. PvSHMT has a maximum absorption peak at 422 nm with a molar absorption coefficient of 6370m )1 Æcm )1 . The Kd for binding of the enzyme and pyridoxal-5-phosphate was 0.14 ± 0.01lm.
