Research on the morphological characteristics, agronomics, pre-harvest germination resistance, and genetic diversity of some popular rice varieties grown in Binh Dinh province is essential in assessing material resources for selecting and developing new rice varieties that can adapt to climate change. The results show that there is one extra short-day variety, five short-day varieties, and three medium-day varieties.

The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with five replications in earthen pots with four different weedy rice genotypes viz. O. rufipogon, O. nivara, O. barthii and O. minuta. Data were subjected to analysis of variance using MS-Excel worksheet. Different morphological and growth behaviors characters and yield parameters were recorded for the morphological study of the different species.

The present investigation was under taken during rabi 2014-15 under rice fallow condition at District Seed Farm Kalyani, BCKV, W.B. Fifteen elite genotypes of chickpea (3 kabuli and 12 desi) were taken to evaluate and select the better yielding genotype(s) based on the nodulation behavior as well as root morphology, suitable for new alluvial zone of West Bengal and also to estimate the correlation among different underground and above ground agromorphic traits including yield.

The pathogen is adaptable to adverse environmental conditions of widely fluctuating temperatures and relative humidity. It appears in irrigated low land or rain fed upland rice as well as in submerged or deep water rice. Rice was important crop in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states and losses due disease was also more. Keeping this in view we are conducting survey in both the states to identify the severity of disease.

An investigation was carried out to study the frequency distribution, variability parameters and character association of traits in F2 populations of rice from the cross BPT-5204 x WAB 450 for grain yield and its component characters. In general, the PCV was higher than the GCV for all the traits and small differences between PCV and GCV were recorded for morphological traits studied which indicates less influence of environment on these characters.

An image analysis technique is well suited for the collection of data concerning the shape and size of the seeds. Such morphological data is often used for establishing the distinctness of new varieties. Seed morphometric characters like seed length, breadth, length to breadth ratio (seed shape) and thousand seed weight were determined for hundred rice genotypes by using Biovis image analyser.

Genotypes of rice collected from various parts of foot hills of Himalayan region (31.1048 N; 77.1734 E) mainly Himachal Pradesh were assessed for morphological markers such as leaf linked characters. A significant amount of genetic variation was displayed for most of the traits examined. All genotypes has green coleoptile colour except Kaludhan which was purple in nature. Among the 8 genotypes which having anthocyanin colouration for leaf, 4 genotypes have anthocyanin on tip only, marginal distribution for 3 genotype and uniform spread for Kaludhan.

An investigation was carried out with 42 genotypes of rice to study the nature and magnitude of genetic divergence using Mahalanobis D2 statistics. Based on 12 morphological quantitative and quality characters namely, days to 50 per cent flowering, plant height, number of productive tillers per plant, panicle length, hundred grain weight, grain length, grain breadth, grain L/B ratio, kernel length, kernel breadth, kernel L/B ratio and grain yield per plant, these genotypes were grouped into six clusters.

An experiment was framed to know the genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance and character association among the lines homozygous dominant for gall midge resistance gene Gm4 in the genetic background of ADT 38 variety of rice in advanced backcross (BC1F5) generation of rice. The Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the characters studied. High GCV coupled with high PCV was exhibited by single plant yield. This result creates scope for selection of superior segregants.

In this study, the fifteen isolates of Trichoderma were obtained from rhizospheric soil samples of rice, soybean and mungbean from various locations of Pantnagar and Dehradun. These isolates were characterized based on their cultural and morphological characteristics. The cultural characteristics like colony colour, presence or absence of concentric rings, surface topography, pigmentation on the lower side of the plate, time of first appearance of green conidia and their growth at various temperatures were determined on the basal medium Potato Dextrose Agar.
