Motif distribution

The existence of protospacer adjacent motifs (PAMs) sequences in bacteriophage genome is critical for the recognition and function of the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-Cas (CRISPR-Cas) machinery system. We further elucidate the significance of PAMs and their function, particularly as a part of transcriptional regulatory regions in T4 bacteriophages.

The availability of the genomes of two archaic humans, Neanderthal and Denisovan, and that of modern humans provides researchers an opportunity to investigate genetic differences between these three subspecies on a genome-wide scale. Here we describe an algorithm that predicts statistically significant motifs based on the difference between a given motif’s actual and expected distributions. The algorithm was previously applied to plants but was modified for this work.

This motif is widely distributed in eukaryotic proteins, as well as in proteins from bac-teria and viruses. dsRBM-containing proteins are involved in processes ran-ging from RNA editing to protein phosphorylation in translational control and contain a variable number of dsRBM domains.

This is all possible because the TKFORMAT subsystem is installed inside the DBMS. In fact, TKFORMAT supports more than just SAS formats that are defined using PROC FORMAT. SAS ships with hundreds of formats already defined. Formats supplied by SAS are deployed into the DBMS as a small set of runtime modules. Formats created by PROC FORMAT, in contrast, can export these user-written format definitions as XML. These XML streams can then be stored inside the DBMS as database objects.
