To gain a better understanding of anthocyanin biosynthesis in mulberry fruit, we analyzed the transcriptome of the mulberry varieties Da 10 (Morus atropurpurea Roxb., black fruit) and Baisang (Morus alba L., white fruit).

Studies on different tree mulberry genotypes on rearing performance of silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) was carried out to identify the best performing genotypes based on the bioassay performance of silkworm cross breed PM x CSR2 during rainy, winter and summer seasons of 2018-19at the Department of Sericulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. The present study comprised of six mulberry genotypes viz., MI-012, MI-79, MI-21, MI-139, MI-516, ME-05 and two check varieties V1 and M5.

The study revealed that, maximum number of shoots (12.44, 16.40, and 19.57) and more shoot length (29.85, 76.87, 109.32 cm) was observed in Tr-10 variety on 15, 30th and 45 days after pruning. Further, the data on maximum number of leaves (9.20, 15.89, 21.99) was recorded in S-34 variety whereas the internodal distance (5.67, 7.69 8.08 cm) and leaf area (58.32, 175.12 and 224.04 cm2 ) was recorded in Tr-10.

Current experiment is conducted to study correlation and path analysis among morphological parameter and their contribution towards mulberry leaf yield taken up at an alkali hot spot in Karnataka in untreated alkali soil, alkali soils reclaimed with inorganic and organic amendment by growing five alkali tolerant mulberry genotypes alongwith two improved genotypes and one ruling local check at Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute, Central Silk Board, Mysuru.

Genetic variability is the pre-requisite for the initiation of any improvement programme for the identification and selection of superior entries over the existing cultivars. The investigation was conducted in 47 genotypes maintained at mulberry germplasm block at CSB-Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRandTI), Pampore for 13 agro-morphological traits to understand the available genetic variability for future improvement in mulberry.

Genetic variability analysis and heritability of different yield contributing characters were investigated in 44 mulberry genotypes for six morphological and eight physiological traits to understand the available genetic variability for future improvement of mulberry. Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV %) was found to be higher than the respective genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV %) for all the characters denoting variability among genotypes.
