In this study, a simple, straightforward, and highly efficient microwave-assisted three-component synthesis of novel 2-amino-4H-benzo[g]chromene-5,10-dione-3-carbonitrile derivatives bearing fluorine atoms has been developed using 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) as an ecofriendly catalyst, and acetonitrile as a solvent.

The efficient synthesis of 12-substituted-3,4,4a,5,12,12a-hexahydrobenzo[b]acridine-1,6,11(2H)-triones starting from 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone, 1,3-cyclohexanedione, and different (hetero)aromatic aldehydes was developed. These reactions were carried out in acetic acid under microwave irradiation in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed employing spectroscopic data as well as elemental analysis. The plausible mechanism of these three-component domino reactions was also described.

The outcomes are to be compared with typical drugs given that compounds are examined against gram-positive and gram-negative strains of bacteria and fungus. Against bacterial strains, products with nitro, methyl, and bromo substituents in the p-position of the benzene ring, as well as products with the nitro group at the m-position, showed very excellent activities against bacterial strains, while compounds with chloro substituent at p-position and m-position demonstrated good activity against the fungal strains Aspergillus niger and Fusarium javanicum.

The synthesis of a novel series of pyridine and bipyridine derivatives is described via one-pot multicomponent reaction of 5-acetylimidazole, malonitrile (or ethylcyanoacetate or diethylmalonate), substituted benzaldehyde (or terephthaldehyde), and ammonium acetate in good yields. The structures of all the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were screened and the results showed that most of such compounds exhibit considerable activities.

The three-component reaction of benzoic acid derivatives, (N -isocyanimino)triphenylphosphorane, and trichloroacetyl isocyanate in a 1:1:1 ratio in CH3 CN occurred at room temperature, and the 5-aryl-N -(trichloroacetyl)- 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-carboxamide derivatives produced were formed in high yields. The reaction proceeded smoothly and cleanly under mild reaction conditions and no side reactions were observed. A simple and efficient one-pot synthesis of novel thieno[3’,2’:5,6]pyrimido[1,2-a]quinoline-2-carboxylates (5a– d) and their spirooxindole derivatives (12a–d) was accomplished. Thus, the Michael addition reaction of the cyclic β-enaminone 3 with the corresponding α, β-unsaturated nitrile derivatives 4a–d in refluxing EtOH in the presence of piperidine afforded 5a–d in good yields. On the other hand, spirooxindole derivatives 12a–d were synthesized by the reaction of cyclic β-enaminone 3 with the corresponding 3-cyanomethylidene-2-oxoindoles 11a–d in refluxing EtOH.

A highly dispersible and magnetically recoverable Cu-PEI@Fe 3 O4 MNPs catalyst was prepared and successfully applied in one-pot three-component coupling of terminal alkynes, sodium azide, and alkyl bromides/chlorides in water to give 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles with good to excellent yields. The catalyst was fully characterized with FT-IR, TGA, TEM, SEM, VSM, EDX, cyclic voltammetry, and ICP-AES spectroscopic techniques.
