  • It has been hypothesized that polypharmacy may increase the frequency of multidrug interactions (MDIs) where one drug interacts with two or more other drugs, amplifying the risk of associated adverse drug events (ADEs).

  • Multidrug-resistant bacterial strains are becoming a serious problem. Therefore, the application of natural antimicrobial agents from plant extracts combined with antibiotics to overcome this problem is of major importance. The antimicrobial activity of five plants (Rosemary, Marjoram, Mint, Dill and Neem) methanol extract prepared by ultrasonicassisted (UAE) combined with antibiotics (amoxicillin, doxycycline, gentamicin and difloxacin) against 41 Salmonella poultry isolates was tested using in vitro methods.

  • Pharmacokinetic drug–drug interactions (in particular at metabolism) may result in fatal adverse effects in some cases. This basic information, therefore, is needed for drug therapy even in veterinary medicine, as multidrug therapy is not rare in canines and felines. The aim of this review was focused on possible drug–drug interactions in dogs and cats. The interaction includes enzyme induction by phenobarbital, enzyme inhibition by ketoconazole and flu- oroquinolones, and down-regulation of enzymes by dexamethasone.

  • Plant flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds, commonly found in vegeta-bles, fruits and many food sources that form a significant portion of our diet. These compounds have been shown to interact with several ATP-bind-ing cassette transporters that are linked with anticancer and antiviral drug resistance and, as such, may be beneficial in modulating drug resistance. This study investigates the interactions of six common polyphenols; querce-tin, silymarin, resveratrol, naringenin, daidzein and hesperetin with the multidrug-resistance-associated proteins, MRP1, MRP4 and MRP5. ...

  • The physician is greatly challenged to provide optimal therapy for mycobacterial illnesses because of the increase in both drug-susceptible and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis; the increasing number of pathogenic nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM); drug-related toxicities and drug-drug interactions (especially in patients who have AIDS, with their complex antiretroviral drug regimens); and the plethora of new antibiotics with antimycobacterial potential.
