In conclusion, sequence analysis may be useful for the rapid detection of STR resistance in MDR M. tuberculosis strains, which in turn could contribute to better control strategies of TB in Vietnam. Other molecular mechanisms associated with STR resistance in STR-resistant strains without mutations in the rpsL and rrs genes need to be further investigated.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains not detected by commercial molecular drug susceptibility testing (mDST) assays due to the RpoB I491F resistance mutation are threatening the control of MDR tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in Eswatini.

Multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a significant global public health threat. Genotypic resistance prediction from Mtb DNA sequences offers an alternative to laboratory-based drugsusceptibility testing. User-friendly and accurate resistance prediction tools are needed to enable public health and clinical practitioners to rapidly diagnose resistance and inform treatment regimens.

Ural genetic family is a part of the Euro-American lineage of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is endemic in Northern Eurasia (former Soviet Union [FSU]). These strains were long described as drug susceptible and of low virulence, but recent studies reported an increasing circulation of the multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Ural strains.

Tuberculosis (TB), particularly multi- and or extensive drug resistant TB, is still a global medical emergency. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is a current alternative to the WHO-approved probe-based methods for TB diagnosis and detection of drug resistance, genetic diversity and transmission dynamics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC).

F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) is increasingly used to investigate for malignancy in the evaluation of pulmonary nodules, yet both active tuberculosis (TB) and malignancy have high uptake of FDG. Definitive diagnosis of TB can be further hindered in patients without growth of the organism from sputum.

Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are potential drugs that inhibit DNA synthesis and are used in the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) and short-term anti-TB regimens. In recent years, a high proportion of FQ resistance has been observed in Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates.

Tuberculosis remains as one of the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Estimated cases of around 9.6 million are affected by all forms of TB worldwide, out of which 2.2 billion are affected in India. India also has the second highest burden of MDR TB after China. Information on MDR TB is sparse in Raichur District. We undertook this study to detect MDR TB among MDR suspected cases and its common mutation using Genotype MTBDR plus. All presumptive MDR sputum samples were sent to DST LAB RIMS, Raichur from various part of Raichur district.

Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It remains a major health threat, killing over one million people every year worldwide. An early antibiotic therapy is the basis of the treatment, and the emergence and spread of multidrug and extensively drug-resistant mutant strains raise significant challenges.

Drug-resistance is a growing threat to global efforts in controlling and managing TB infections. Drug-susceptible TB is curable but drug misuse and poor patient compliance leads to multidrug resistance to the first line of TB antibiotics, rifampicin and isoniazid. The second line of treatment is less potent and has severe side effects, takes longer to cure the disease, and has poor success rates (Gandhi et al., 2010).

The rate of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis (TB) has been steadily increasing in developing countries like India. The availability of rapid and reliable methods for the detection of drug resistance to second-line drugs is vital for adequate patient management. MTBDRsl-2 is newer DNA based test recommended by WHO for screening of XDR and Pre XDR patients.

India is high tuberculosis burdened country with increasing prevalence of multidrug resistant tuberculosis. Rapid diagnosis and prompt treatment of infectious cases are the key elements in reducing the spread of tuberculosis. In the present study we sought to ascertain multidrug resistant tuberculosis among previously treated tuberculosis cases and its resistance pattern to rifampicin and isoniazid genes.

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a major cause of morbidity and mortal-ity worldwide. The increasing emergence and spread of drug-resistant TB poses a significant threat to disease control and calls for the urgent devel-opment of new drugs. The tryptophan biosynthetic pathway plays an important role in the survival of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
