Multidrug therapy

Xem 1-19 trên 19 kết quả Multidrug therapy
  • Patients with hematological malignancies often require multidrug therapy using a variety of antineoplastic agents and supportive care medications. This increases the risk of drug-related problems (DRPs). Determining DRPs in patients hospitalized in hematology services is important for patients to achieve their drug treatment goals and prevent adverse effects.

  • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a global health concern. Many antibiotics are no longer effective at treating MRSA, which causes an increase in adverse patient outcomes. This has led to calls for new antibiotics and treatment strategies to combat the spread of MRSA and multidrug resistance (MDR).

  • Pneumonia and septic pneumonic shock are the most common indications for long-term mechanical ventilation and prolonged weaning, independent of any comorbidities. Multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria are emerging as a cause of pneumonia or occur as a consequence of antimicrobial therapy.

  • Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It remains a major health threat, killing over one million people every year worldwide. An early antibiotic therapy is the basis of the treatment, and the emergence and spread of multidrug and extensively drug-resistant mutant strains raise significant challenges.

  • The study included 150 patients admitted in burns unit at Osmania General Hospital, Hyderabad over a period of six months from March 2015 to August 2015. The wound swabs collected were sent to Microbiology lab for Grams stain, Culture and Antimicrobial susceptibility. Majority of the cases were in the age group 20- 30 yrs. Females outnumbered males. Burns due to flames were the most common cause of the wound. Among 150 samples, 143 were culture positive of which, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) was the predominant isolate followed by Klebsiella.

  • Surgical site infections are most common nosocomial infection and are associated with prolonged hospital stay, health care cost, morbidity and mortality. The causative agents involved in SSI’s may vary with geographical location, between surgeons, various procedures and from hospital to hospital. The present study was done to determine the aerobic bacterial flora from surgical site infections and their antimicrobial resistance pattern. A total of 50 culture positive samples obtained from SSI’s were included in this study.

  • Resistance in pathogenic bacteria against antibiotics is a challenge for our clinicians for the management of various infections. The emergence of antibiotic resistance has caused great concern among health professionals and the prevalence of multidrug-resistant organisms has been increasing. Over-ambitious use of broad spectrum antibiotics is playing an important role in the increased incidence of infections due to MDR bacteria. Multiple drug resistance (MDR) mediated through R plasmids among Gram-negative bacteria has become a major nosocomial problem worldwide.

  • The rapid emergence of multiresistant microbial pathogens is a serious threat to human health. Extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli is a superbug causing worldwide outbreaks, CTX-M has become the most commonly detected ESBL genotype; these enzymes have become predominant worldwide, the most common type of CTX-M reported in various geographic regions is CTX-M15. A total of 80 Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolates were recovered from different clinical samples of intensive care units (ICUs) patients.

  • Historically, S. aureus has been one of the most common pathogens which caused pyogenic local and systemic infections in both hospitals and community. Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is associated with multidrug resistance, an aggressive course, increased mortality and morbidity in both community and health care facilities. This cross sectional study was carried out in a 70 burn patients from May 2016 to July 2018 at DR.S.C.G.M.C, Nanded India. Swabs were taken and cultured for bacterial isolation and identification following standard operative procedures.

  • Pharmacokinetic drug–drug interactions (in particular at metabolism) may result in fatal adverse effects in some cases. This basic information, therefore, is needed for drug therapy even in veterinary medicine, as multidrug therapy is not rare in canines and felines. The aim of this review was focused on possible drug–drug interactions in dogs and cats. The interaction includes enzyme induction by phenobarbital, enzyme inhibition by ketoconazole and flu- oroquinolones, and down-regulation of enzymes by dexamethasone.

  • Multidrug resistance is a major challenge in the therapy of cancer and pathogenic fungal infections. More than three decades ago, P-glycoprotein was the first identified multidrug transporter. It has been studied exten-sively at the genetic and biochemical levels ever since. Pdr5, the most abun-dant ATP-binding cassette transporter in Saccharomyces cerevisiae,is highly homologous to azole-resistance-mediating multidrug transporters in fungal pathogens, and a focus of clinical drug resistance research. ...
