Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei (LMDF), an uncommon inflammatory granulomatous dermatosis with possible immune mechanisms, affects young adults. We report a typical case of LMDF on a 28-yearold male patient diagnosed by clinical and histopathology

The eukaryotic unicellular protist Plasmodiophora brassicae is an endocellular parasite of cruciferous plants. In host cortical cells, this protist develops a unicellular structure that is termed the plasmodium. The plasmodium is actually a multinucleated cell, which subsequently splits and forms resting spores. The mechanism for the growth of this endocellular parasite in host cell is unclear.

Root-knot nematodes (RKN), genus Meloidogyne, are plant parasitic worms that have the ability to transform root vascular cylinder cells into hypertrophied, multinucleate and metabolically over-active feeding cells.

Multinucleated giant cells have been noticed in diverse arthritic conditions since their first description in rheumatoid synovium. However, their role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA) still remains broadly unknown. We aimed to study the presence and characteristics of multinucleated giant cells (MGC) both in synovium and in subchondral bone tissues of patients with OA or RA.

Nucleoporin Nup88, a component of nuclear pore complexes, is known to be overexpressed in several types of tumor tissue. The overexpression of Nup88 has been reported to promote the early step of tumorigenesis by inducing multinuclei in both HeLa cells and a mouse model.

Root knot nematode Meloidogyne enterolobii cause considerable yield losses in guava. It is now an emerging menace in guava production. Many authors reported the resistant nature of Psidium cattleianum against M. enterolobii. P. cattleianum is a small tree or shrub with a smooth bark and leaves are obovate elliptic and glabrous. Fruits are round, having good aroma with sweet taste. The fruits of Psidium gujava are big in size, round, smooth skin, white or pink flesh, soft, firm, light yellow, pleasant flavor with few seeds. Mechanisms of resistance against M.

The present study was conducted on the buffalo hemal nodes (n=12) of different age groups. The cellular elements present in the hemal node were lymphocytes, erythrocytes, neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, plasma cells, reticular cells and megakaryocytes. The study revealed the presence of hemosiderin pigment formed by the degradation of erythrocytes in the sub-capsular sinus and parenchyma of the hemal node. Macrophages engulfing erythrocytes were observed in sinuses. The amount of the hemosiderin pigment produced was comparatively less in young animals.

Poly(b-L-malate) (PMLA) has been reported as an uncon-ventional, physiologically important biopolymer in plasmo-dia of myxomycetes, and has been proposed to function in the storage and transport of nuclear proteins by mimicking the phospho(deoxy)ribose backbone of nucleic acids. It is distributed in the cytoplasm and especially in the nuclei of these giant, multinucleate cells. We report here for the first time an increase in growth rate and a shortening of the cell cycle after the injection of purified PMLA. ...

Tzanck Smear A Tzanck smear is a cytologic technique most often used in the diagnosis of herpesvirus infections [herpes simplex virus (HSV) or varicella zoster virus (VZV)] (see Figs. 173-1 and 173-3). An early vesicle, not a pustule or crusted lesion, is unroofed, and the base of the lesion is scraped gently with a scalpel blade. The material is placed on a glass slide, air-dried, and stained with Giemsa or Wright's stain. Multinucleated epithelial giant cells suggest the presence of HSV or VZV; culture or immunofluorescence testing must be performed to identify the specific virus.
