In present study, 160 horses were screened for enteric Salmonella and their antimicrobial resistance pattern in Bikaner. Presence of InvA gene in faecal samples was used as marker for Salmonella shedding. Antimicrobial resistance analysis against 10 different antibiotics was done on 11 isolates of Salmonella enterica.

The multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) index values of 0.4 to 0.73 (of each sample collection site) indicated that these isolates were exposed to high risk sources of contamination where antibiotics were commonly used. Conjugation experiments demonstrated the successful transfer of all or part of the resistance phenotypes of shrimp isolates to the human recipient strains.

Resistance to antimicrobial agents among clinically important pathogens in the community and environment has compromised therapy and requires constant monitoring of emerging pathogens. Current investigation was aimed at determining the antimicrobial resistance pattern in bacteria isolated from public water body near a hospital and also from two fish farms which used the same water for aquaculture. Of 105 isolates, maximum number of isolates belonged to the Enterobacter spp.

A total of 200 fish samples were examined for the presence of extended spectrum βlactamases (ESBL) producing Aeromonas spp. in raw fish samples collected from retail markets of Durg, Raipur, Rajnandgaon and Balod districts of Chhattisgarh state. A total of 70 (35%) fish samples were found contaminated with Aeromonas spp. Among 70 Aeromonas isolates, 16 (22.9%) were phenotypically identified as ESBL producer. Out of these 16 isolates, 11 and 5 were from fresh water and marine fish samples, respectively.
