Leptospirosis is known for its pulmonary form characterized by intra-alveolar hemorrhage, exhibiting a high mortality rate. Management by venous–venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation has been reported in a small number of cases.

Psychological stress has been reported to cause hyperthermia. Persistent excessive hyperthermia can, in turn, cause hypercytokinemia and organ damage. We report a case of postoperative severe hyperthermia leading to a systemic inflammatory response and multiple organ failure in a child with Down syndrome.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that typically occurs in tropical and subtropical countries. The clinical manifestations of dengue infection range from an asymptomatic subclinical course to severe dengue shock syndrome. Besides, dengue can affect any organ in the body and can present with atypical manifestations.

We report a case of prenatal coronavirus disease 2019, which evolved 6 days after birth into severe pneumonia with signs of multiple organ failure, in a mother with asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019.

Thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin myelofibrosis/renal insufficiency, and organomegaly (TAFRO) syndrome is treated using corticosteroids and/or immunosuppressive agents as first-line therapy. We report the case of a 69-year-old female with TAFRO syndrome in which the patient presented multiple organ failure and steroid resistance, which was successfully treated using plasma exchange (PE) followed by rituximab.

Bladder paraganglioma is a neuroendocrine tumor that accounts for less than 0.1% of all bladder tumors. Symptoms caused by catecholamine release such as hypertension, palpitation, syncope, and macroscopic hematuria are the most common findings. Treatment modalities include transurethral resection, and partial or total cystectomy.

In this research, we proposed a new, low cost, high sensitivity and selectivity analytical method for the determination of diquat in the plasma samples applying the HPLC-UV method. The method developed was applied at Posion Control Centre, Bachmai Hospital for diagnosis of diquat acute-poisoning from DQintoxicated patients.

Several case series and small randomized controlled trials suggest that therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) improves coagulation, hemodynamics and possibly survival in severe sepsis. However, the exact role of TPE in modern sepsis therapy remains unclear.

The prognostic value of biochemical tests in critically ill patients with multiple organ failure and suspected bowel ischemia is unknown. Methods: In a prospective observational cohort study intensive care patients were included when the attending intensivist considered intestinal ischemia in the diagnostic workup at any time during intensive care stay.

Primary cardiac neoplasms are extremely rare, with an autopsy incidence of 0.0001–0.003%. Primary cardiac sarcoma is usually derived from the right atrium and it manifests as chest pain, arrhythmia, hemoptysis, dyspnea, and fatigue. The most common target organ for metastasis of primary angiosarcoma is the lungs, but the radiological-pathological correlation has been rarely reported.

The mortality rate due to severe sepsis is approximately 30–60%. Sepsis readily progresses to septic shock and multiple organ dysfunction, representing a significant problem in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The aim of this study was to explore the value of plasma mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) for early diagnosis and prognosis in children with sepsis.

Dengue virus belongs to the Flaviviridae family which also includes viruses such as the Zika, West Nile and yellow fever virus. Dengue virus generally causes mild disease, however, more severe forms of the dengue virus infection, dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue haemorrhagic fever with shock syndrome (DSS) can also occur, resulting in multiple organ failure and even death, especially in children.

The ever-present element of risk and uncertainty means that the events and tasks leading to completion can never be foretold with absolute accuracy. Examples abound of projects that have exceeded their costs by enormous amounts, finishing late or even being abandoned before completion. Such failures are far too common, seen in all kinds of projects in industry, commerce and (especially, it seems) the public sector.
