Psychological stress has been reported to cause hyperthermia. Persistent excessive hyperthermia can, in turn, cause hypercytokinemia and organ damage. We report a case of postoperative severe hyperthermia leading to a systemic inflammatory response and multiple organ failure in a child with Down syndrome.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), which shows a variable clinical presentation, is a disease that involves the proliferation of histiocytes. LCH occurs at any age and can affect a single system or multiple systems. The successful and accurate diagnosis of cases involving multiple organs requires a multidisciplinary approach.

Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS) is a rare genetic disorder that is associated with dysmorphism, moderate to severe intellectual disability and abnormalities involving multiple organ systems. For anesthetists, these patients pose unique challenges in the administration of anesthesia and airway management.

To determine if greater non-profit hospital spending for community benefits is associated with better health outcomes in the county where they are located. We ran multiple regressions on community benefit expenditures linked with the number of health professionals, food insecurity, and adherence to diabetes and hypertension medication for each county.

Sjogren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease of the exocrine glands, results in keratoconjunctivitis sicca, xerostomia, and dental caries. It is often overlooked, considered by clinicians to be a benign disease. However, it can cause life-threatening extra-glandular complications that affect multiple organ systems.

Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis is an uncommon multisystem disorder caused by mutation of the transthyretin protein, leading to peripheral neuropathy often with autonomic features, cardiomyopathy, or a mixed phenotype. Multiple other organ systems can be involved with ophthalmologic, renal, hematologic, gastrointestinal, and/or genitourinary symptoms and signs.

High-altitude adaptation provides an excellent system for studying how organisms cope with multiple environmental stressors and interacting genetic modifications. To explore the genetic basis of high-altitude adaptation in poikilothermic animals, we acquired transcriptome sequences from a high-altitude population and a low-altitude population of the Asiatic toad (Bufo gargarizans).
