Muscle weakness is an important etiological factor in plantar fasciitis (PF), but available data on the role of the quadriceps, hamstring, and gastrocnemius (GCM) muscles are limited. The aim of this study was to compare the strength and reaction time of the quadriceps, hamstring, and GCM muscles and foot pressure between patients with PF and normal controls.

Non-muscular invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) has a high risk of recurrence. As androgen receptor (AR) reportedly affects bladder cancer, we assessed the correlation between NMIBC recurrence and tumor AR expression in Japanese patients.

In this study, we have characterized the influence of hypoxia on the expression of hydroxylases crucially involved in col-lagen fiber formation, such as prolyl-4-hydroxylases (Ph4) and procollagen lysyl-hydroxylases (PLOD). Using the rat vascular smooth muscle cell line A7r5, we found that an hypoxic atmosphere caused a characteristic time-dependent five- to 12-fold up-regulation of the mRNAs of the two P4h a-subunits [aI (P4ha1) andaII (P4ha2)] and of two lysyl-hydroxylases (PLOD1 and PLOD2).

Cells offer different types of cytoskeletal anchorages: transitory structures such as focal contacts and perennial ones such as the sarcomeric cytoskele-ton of muscle cells. The turnover of these structures is controlled with dif-ferent timing by a family of cysteine proteases activated by calcium, the calpains.

Looked at in this way the industrial process shows two well−marked general characteristics: (a) the running maintenance of interstitial adjustments between the several sub−processes or branches of industry, wherever in their working they touch one another in the sequence of industrial elaboration; and (b) an unremitting requirement of quantitative precision, accuracy in point of time and sequence, in the proper inclusion and exclusion of forces affecting the outcome, in the magnitude of the various physical characteristics (weight, size, density, hardness, tensile strength, elasticity,...
