Mushroom compost

Converting spent mushroom substrates into organic fertilizer helps to tackle the problem of pollution in edible canna starch processing villages and adds new value to the production chain of edible canna. To successfully turn the spent substrates into compost, there is certainly an indispensable role for cellulolytic microorganisms, in which Bacillus strains are always important.

The main edible mushroom is the button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus), a perfect example of economical food production which is manufactured on a specific manure delivered from farming residue materials. In mushroom cultivation successive microbial community consists of a variety of microorganisms including bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi at first breakdown the straw to form lignin humus complex and discharge the gases, and then metabolise the cellulose and hemicellulose into compost microbial biomass.

In the present study, a total 124 participants were judged for their knowledge gain after training on Mushroom Production Technologies. The training programme on Mushroom Production technologies were arranged for rural youth, farmers and farm women of district Barnala, Punjab. Maximum knowledge gain (86.29 %) was observed in Button mushroom compost production technologies followed by 81.45 per cent knowledge gain in learning about the commercial varieties of mushrooms popular in northern India.

An experimental was conducted to see the effect of organic manure against Alternaria leaf spot of cabbage in the plot size 2X2 m2 / eight treatment is farm yard manure 5 t/ha spent mushroom compost 500 kg/ha, poultry manure 5 t/ha, vermicompost 10 t/ha, neem cake 500 kg/ha, and leaf mold 3 t/ha, goat manure 10 t/ha, along with the control . Observation each treatment was replicated three times data generally by using RBD design on percentage of disease intensity @ 30,45 and 60 DAT.

The experiment was conducted at Mushroom Production unit at SG College of agriculture and research station, Jagdalpur during July 2017-January 2018 under controlled condition. Fresh culture of Agaricus bisporus S-11 was maintained on potato dextrose agar. Compost was prepared by short method of composting and cultivation trials of Agaricus bisporus S11 was carried out in a closed room provided with air conditioner as source of cooling.

In the present investigation three carriers, charcoal, mushroom compost, vermicompost were evaluated for the production of bioinoculants. The bacteria used for bioinoculants development was recommended Rhizobium spp. (M1). The Rhizobium strains were inoculated in all the three carriers singly and in combination with different carriers.

This study was carried out on the cultivation of five species of Pleurotus using fermentation substrate. Paddy (Oryza sativa) was used for spawn production. Five species of Pleurotus (identified and selected in the isolation process from mushroom farms in Lamdong province) with prepared compost were examined for time of spawn running, infection rate and biological efficiency.

Composting is carried out under aerobic thermogenesis to prepare a selective substrate for Agaricus bisporus production. Conventionally, wheat straw based synthetic compost is used for its production. Use of paddy straw as such tends to make the composting process anaerobic leading to low quality compost and low yields. In the present study, an alternative high yielding compost formulation based on paddy straw + maize stalks as a substitute to the existing wheat straw based compost has been made.
