Mutant population of groundnut
-
In this study, an effort was made to analyze the population genetic parametersusing AhTE markers among a mutant population and a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population of groundnut to assess the utility of AhTE markers in genetic and genomic studies.

An investigation was carried out to study the effects of various doses (0.2 to 0.6%) of EMS on physico-quality traits of groundnut (Arachis hypogea L) in M4 families of the groundnut variety TPG 41. Among the different concentrations of EMS treated TPG 41 population, 0.2 % EMS was found to be effective in inducing variability for pod yield per plant, hundred kernel weight, shelling out turn and kernel length in M4 families.

A population of 53 mutants, their parents and eight cultivated varieties belonging to two subspecies of groundnut were evaluated during kharif 2012 for productivity, oil quality traits and resistance to late leaf spot (LLS) and rust diseases to assess association between these traits and the Arachis hypgaea Miniature Inverted-Repeat Transposable Elements (AhMITE1) markers. Genotypes showed significant differences and high PCV and GCV for all the traits.

A new recombinant inbred line (RIL) population was developed from a late leaf spot (LLS) susceptible mutant (VL 1) and its secondary mutant (110) which was resistant to LLS. The RILs (114) were evaluated for yield, yield components, nutritional and oil quality traits, and response to LLS and rust diseases during the rainy season of 2015 to assess the suitability of the mapping population for mapping these traits. The RILs differed significantly for all the traits studied.

A mutant population comprising of 42 primary mutants, 7 secondary mutants and 4 tertiary mutants along with the parent Dharwad Early Runner (DER) and eight most popular groundnut varieties were evaluated during kharif 2012 for various agronomic, traits and for resistance to rust and late leaf spot. The genotypes showed significant genotypic differences for all the quantitative and nutritional traits studied. They also differed significantly for rust and LLS resistance except for LLS at 70 DAS.
