MYB family proteins are one of the most abundant transcription factors in the cotton plant and play diverse roles in cotton growth and evolution. Previously, few studies have been conducted in upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum. The recent release of the G. hirsutum genome sequence provides a great opportunity to identify and characterize the entire upland cotton MYB protein family.

Saintpaulia ionantha H. Wendl (synonym Streptocarpus ionanthus) has been considered an ornamental plant. The PHANTASTICA (PHAN) gene has a significant role in the formation of plant organs adaxial–abaxial polarity. In the present study the PHAN gene was identified in Saintpaulia for the first time using PCR. To determine the expression pattern of the PHAN gene, gene expression was compared at 3 developmental stages using real time PCR.

Although black cultivars of carrots (Daucus carota L.) can accumulate large quantities of anthocyanin in their storage roots, the regulatory genes responsible for their biosynthesis are not well characterized. The current study aimed to analyze global transcription profiles based on RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq), and mine MYB, bHLH and WD40 genes that may function as positive or negative regulators in the carrot anthocyanin biosynthesis pathways.

Ananas comosus var. bracteatus is a colorful plant used as a cut flower or landscape ornamental. The unique foliage color of this plant includes both green and red leaves and, as a trait of interest, deserves investigation. In order to explore the pigments behind the red section of the chimeric leaves, the green and red parts of chimeric leaves of Ananas comosus var. bracteatus were sampled and analyzed at phenotypic, cellular and molecular levels in this study.

Anthocyanins contribute to coloration and antioxidation effects in different plant tissues. MYB transcription factors have been demonstrated to be a key regulator for anthocyanin synthesis in many plants. However, little information was available about the MYB genes in the halophyte species Eutrema salsugineum.

Sheepgrass (Leymus chinensis (Trin.) Tzvel) is a perennial forage grass that can survive extreme freezing winters (− 47.5 °C) in China. In this study, we isolated an unknown function MYB transcription factor gene, LcMYB4, from sheepgrass. However, the function of LcMYB4 and its homologous genes has not been studied in other plants.

Leaf red coloration is an important characteristic in many plant species, including cultivars of ornamental peach (Prunus persica). Peach leaf color is controlled by a single Gr gene on linkage group 6, with a red allele dominant over the green allele. Here, we report the identification of a candidate gene of Gr in peach.

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge is an herb rich in bioactive tanshinone and salvianolic acid compounds. It is primarily used as an effective medicine for treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Liposoluble tanshinones and water-soluble phenolic acids are a series of terpenoids and phenolic compounds, respectively. However, the regulation mechanism for the simultaneous promotion of tanshinone and salvianolic acid biosynthesis remains unclear. This study identified a R2R3-MYB subgroup 20 transcription factor (TF), SmMYB98, which was predominantly expressed in S.
