In this study, alkyl hydroperoxide reductase (AhpC) from M. bovis was evaluated as a new candidate vaccine antigen against TB in BALB/c mice model. The ahpC gene was amplified from M.bovis genome, cloned, and expressed in Escherichia coli. Vaccine antigen AhpC was formulated with Montanide ISA 61 VG, an oil-based emulsion adjuvant. Both IgG and IL-12 responses were observed in mice after administering the formulation both as a subunit vaccine alone and also as a booster vaccine for BCG immunization.

Mycobacterium abscessus (MAB) is a widely disseminated pathogenic non-tuberculous mycobacterium (NTM). Like with the M. tuberculosis complex (MTBC), excreted / secreted (ES) proteins play an essential role for its virulence and survival inside the host.

Tuberculosis is the leading cause of death due to bacterial infections worldwide, mainly caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The antigen 85 complex comprises a set of major secreted proteins of M. tuberculosis, which are potential biomarkers for diagnostic.

The current limitations of conventional BCG vaccines highlights the importance in developing novel and effective vaccines against tuberculosis (TB). The utilization of probiotics such as Lactobacillus plantarum for the delivery of TB antigens through in-trans surface display provides an effective and safe vaccine approach against TB.

Host immune pressure and associated immune evasion of pathogenic bacteria are key features of host-pathogen co-evolution. Human T-cell epitopes of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) were evolutionarily hyperconserved and thus it was deduced that M. tuberculosis lacks antigenic variation and immune evasion.

The 6-kDa early secretory antigenic target (ESAT-6) and culture filtrate protein-10 (CFP-10), expressed from the region of deletion-1 (RD1) of Mycobacterium tuberculosisH37Rv, are known to play a key role in viru-lence. In this study, we explored the thermodynamic and biochemical chan-ges associated with the formation of the 1 : 1 heterodimeric complex between ESAT-6 and CFP-10.

Macrophages are the primary host cells forMycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Although macrophages can mount a strong inflammatory response to dispose of invading microbial pathogens, the immune dysfunction of the Mtb-infected macrophage constitutes the hallmark of mycobacterial patho-genesis.

Antigen binding to the B-cell receptor (BCR) of pre-mature B lymphocytes induces their apoptotic cell death, but binding to the BCR of mature B lymphocytes triggers activation and proliferation. Binding to pre-mature B lymphocytes is thought not only to function as a mechanism to exclude B-cell clones that possess the ability to react with self-antigen, but also to act as a defense mechanism in auto-immune diseases.

A complete screening medical examination for tuberculosis consists of a medical history, physical examination, chest radiography (CXR, when required), determination of immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens (i.e., tuberculin skin testing [TST] or interferon gamma release assay [IGRA], when required), and sputum testing for M. tuberculosis (when required, Figures 1 and 2). Applicants ≥15 years of age require a medical history, physical examination, and CXR.
