  • The present study was carried out to know the prevalence of superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes and to speciate them which may help to control the infection. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of superficial fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, to study the clinic-mycological pattern and to speciate the isolated ones using standard mycological tests. This was a prospective study carried out over a period of one year from June 2014 to May 2015.

  • The present study was undertaken from 30/6/11 – 14/8/12 to know the Bacterial, and Mycological profile profile and drug susceptibility patterns in children suffering from pneumonias. Sputa (expectorated and induced) and Pleural fluid were collected from 113 cases and processed by conventional methods. Antibiotic sensitivity testing of these isolates was done as per CLSI guidelines.

  • This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of fungal agents involved in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and to analyse its clinico-mycological profile. Fifty patients with clinical suspicion of CRS attending a tertiary care hospital during a 6 months period were included in this analysis.

  • Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is chronic inflammation of middle ear and mastoid cavity with recurrent ear discharge lasting for more than 6months. Studies are mainly done on the bacterial aetiology of CSOM, but very little is known about the fungal aspects of such cases. Otomycosis is increasing in the recent years because of the indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, corticosteroids, and an increase in the number of immune deficiency disorders.

  • Dermatophytes are among the common fungal agents implicated in superficial skin infections worldwide. Infections commonly occur in hot and humid climates. They include species of Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton. The present study was done to assess the clinical profile of dermatophytic infections and to identify the species of fungi that are prevalent in this region. A total of 80 samples consisting of skin scrapings, nail scrapings and hair follicles were collected from patients presenting with different ringworm/ tinea infections.

  • Dermatophytoses broadly includes superficial fungal infection of skin, hair and nail. In India dermatophytic infection are very common superficial fungal infections due to hot and humid climate in most of the part of country. A study was planned to find clinicomycological profile of dermatophytic infection in our arid zone along with study of predisposing factors and to find out species commonly involved. To guide the clinician regarding therapeutic options antifungal susceptibility was carried out.

  • The frequency of fungal infections in tuberculosis patients has increased in recent years. A study published in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization estimates that more than a million people develop chronic pulmonary aspergillosis after being treated for TB every year. As bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples are generally useful specimens in the diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA), this study was designed to evaluate the incidence of fungal infections in pulmonary tuberculosis patients by direct microscopy and culture of BAL samples.

  • Otomycosis is an acute, subacute or chronic fungal infection of the external auditory canal. It is worldwide in distribution with a higher prevalence in the hot, humid, and dusty areas of the tropics and subtropics. A wide variety of fungi can cause Otomycosis. In this study, our aim was to determine the most common mode of presentation, predisposing factors, and the spectrum of fungi involved in Otomycosis. 60 Ear discharge samples were collected aseptically using two sterile cotton swabs. One swab was used for direct microscopic examination and used for fungal culture.

  • Ear infections usually results from bacterial, fungal, viral infections. Ear infections are major health problem and occur with a high incidence and prevalence in both developed and developing countries which leads to deafness and intra-cranial complications. It may be acute, chronic or recurrent. It can be suppurative or non-suppurative. The Aim of study is to determine Bacterial and Mycological profile and their antimicrobial sensitivity pattern of Ear Infections. Total 95 patients of Ear Infections are included in this study.

  • Dermatophytosis refers to superficial fungal infection of keratinized tissues, caused by group of keratinophilic dermatophytes. The prevalence of dermatophyte infection varies with different geographic area and climatic conditions. It is one of the common fungal infection but in recent times it is one of the neglected disease. The present study was aimed to assess the clinicomycological profile of dermatophytosis to identify the various infecting dermatophyte species and to compare clinical diagnosis with KOH microscopy and culture.

  • The incidence of superficial mycoses has increased recently due to frequent usage of antibiotics and various immunosuppressive conditions. In the background of immunosuppression, detection of these agents becomes necessary for effective management and prevention of further invasions. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence and causative agents of superficial mycoses in order to provide early and efficient treatment. A cross-sectional study was conducted for 3 months (JuneAugust 2015) on patients with suspected superficial mycoses attending our Dermatology OPD.
