Ebook "Advances in food mycology (Advances in experimental medicine and biology, Volume 571)" was attended by some 35 participants, drawn from among food mycology and related disciplines around the world. The workshop was highly successful, with papers devoted to media and methods development in food mycology, as is usual with these workshops. Particular emphasis was placed on the fungi which produce mycotoxins, especially their ecology, and through ecology, potential control measures.

Extensive investigations carried out on the incidence of common and toxigenic fungi revealed that all types of broiler feeds were found to be infested by common as well as toxigenic fungi and none of the samples was free from contamination. Aspergillus species were dominant in all the samples, followed by species of Penicillium, Fusarium, Alternaria and Chaetomium.

Mycoflora and mycotoxins contamination of different cattle feed samples of north Telangana region was analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The feed samples were highly infested by A. flavus, A. terreus and Penicillium species. The incidence of the rest of the fungi varied with the type of sample and the place of collection. The toxigenic potential of different mycotoxigenic fungi varied with substratum. The strains of A. flavus, A. terreus and Penicillium citrinum elaborated aflatoxin, patulin, terreic acid and citrinin respectively.
