Myxomycetes of Turkey

This study serves as a checklist of the myxomycetes of Trabzon and Giresun provinces, Turkey. Sixty-one myxomycete were identified, 20 of which were collected in the field and 41 grown in moist chamber culture. Twenty-two Myxomycetes species are new records for Turkey. Protophysaraceae Castillo, Illana & Moreno is a new family record and among these species Collaria arcyrionema (Rost.) Hertel is also a new genus record for the myxobiota of Turkey.

The myxomycete flora of Erzurum, Bayburt and Gümüflhane provinces was investigated. Thirty-one myxomycete species were isolated in moist chamber culture. Licea tuberculata G.W.Martin, Physarum leucopus Link and Didymium crustaceum Fr. are new records for Turkey.

Four species of myxomycetes are recorded for the first time from Turkey: Licea variabilis Schard., Licea synsporos Nann.- Brem., Oligonema schweinitzii Martin, and Didymium iridis (Ditmar) Fries. Furthermore, Oligonema Rost. is a new genus record for Turkey.

In this study, 3 new species and 1 new genus were recorded for the first time and added to the list of Turkish Myxomycetes. These new records are Dictydiaethalium Rostaf. with Dictydiaethalium plumbeum (Schumach.) Rostaf. ex Lister, Didymium melanospermum (Pers.) T. Macbr., and Symphytocarpus impexus Ing & Nann.-Bremek.

The specimens cited are deposited in the Herbarium of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in Çanakkale and in the author’s personal collection. Badhamia gracilis (T.Macbr.) T.Macbr. and Diderma crustaceum Peck are recorded for the first time from Turkey.

The samples of Myxomycetes recorded in this study were collected from Kestel forest (Kadinhani, Konya) in 2003 and 2004. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 7 families, and 32 taxa belonging to 11 genera were determined. Eight of these were collected in their natural habitat while 24 were isolated in moist chamber culture.

This study was conducted to identify the biodiversity of Myxomycetes growing in Derebucak (Konya) and Akseki (Antalya) districts. The specimens have been collected periodically during field trips in 2002 and 2004. While 2 samples were treated with the moist chamber cultures method in the laboratory, 1 taxon was determined naturally.

In this taxonomic study, myxomycetes of Tayfur Sökmen Campus (Hatay) were collected during 2010-2011. As a result of field and laboratory studies we reported 44 species of protosteliomycetes and myxomycetes. Three of these species (Diderma deplanatum Fr., Didymium megalosporum Berk & M.A.Curtis, and Lamproderma atrosporum Meyl.) are recorded for the first time from Turkey.
