Nasal bleeding is the most common complication during nasotracheal intubation (NTI). To reduce nasal bleeding, the nasal mucosa is treated with vasoconstrictors (epinephrine [E] or tramazoline [T]) prior to NTI. This study aimed to determine whether E or T is more efective and safe for reducing nasal bleeding during NTI.

Aim of the study is to prospectively examine the Bacteriology of Chronic Rhinosinusitis at MNR Medical College & Hospital, Sangareddy, and to evaluate the antibiotic sensitivity pattern, and to discuss an empirical basis for the initial choice of the appropriate antibiotic. 217 suspected patients were included in the study. The relevant clinical details of the patients including the co-morbidities in the medical records were examined.

Menthol is used as a constituent of food and drink, tobacco and cosmetics nowadays. This cold receptor agonist has been used as a nasal inhalation solution in the daily life. The effect of menthol on nasal mucosa in vivo is well known; however, the effect of the drug on tracheal smooth muscle has been rarely explored.

Aquaporin 5 (AQP5) is most likely the primary water channel in the human nasal mucosa and acts as a key tight junction protein. The signaling cascades responsible for AQP5 regulation are still works in progress.

PDC play a key role in the detection and defence against viruses in the nasal epithelium. After recognizing viruses they start producing large amounts of IFN-alpha. Hartmann et al. showed that the healthy nasal epithelium contains relatively high numbers of PDC and MDC. Whereas PDC levels are decreased in asymptomatic patients with chronic nasal allergy and increased during infectious inflammation. These results indicate the importance of PDC against viral invaders, because of the presence of high numbers of PDC in the healthy nasal mucosa.

Sympathetic nerve stimulation induces vasoconstriction and consequent decreases nasal airway resistance. Parasympathetic nerve stimulation on the other hand, promotes secretion from nasal airway glands and nasal congestion. The nasal mucosa also contains nerves of the non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic (NANC)- system. Neuropeptides from the latter nerves (substance P, neurokinin A and K, and calcitonin gene-related peptide) are suspected to play a role in vasodilatation, mucus secretion, plasma extravasation, neurogenic inflammation, and mast cell nerve interactions.

Odorant binding proteins (OBP) are soluble lipocalins produced in large amounts in the nasal mucosa of several mammalian species. Although OBPs can bind a large variety of odorous compounds, direct and exclusive involvement of these proteins in olfactory perception has not been clearly demonstrated.

Rhinitis Medicamentosa Rhinitis medicamentosa (RM) is a condition that caused by overuse of topical nasal steroids. Also known as rebound or chemical rhinitis, the incidence is somewhere between 1-9% of non-allergic rhinitis and it is more common in younger adults and pregnant women. To understand the cause of RM, we must first look at some of the basic science behind the nasal mucosa. The mucosa is innervated by sympathetic fiber that release norepinephrine, which stimulate alpha 1 and alpha 2 receptors. This in turns causes vasoconstriction.
