Octogenarians and beyond have often been neglected in the populational study of disease despite being at the highest point of non-modifiable disease risk burden and the fastest-growing age group for the past decade. This study examined the characteristics and in-hospital management of octogenarian patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in a multi-ethnic, middle-income country in South East Asia.

India is the world's largest milk producer and primarily an agricultural society where animal husbandry is the backbone of the national economy. In Rajasthan, dairying provides millions of marginal farmers and landless labourers for their livelihood so it is a major economic activity of rural people. The state faces constant drought and famine, which often leads to crop failure because most of the agriculture is fed with rain. In this climate scenario, the dairy sector provides permanent annual income to a large number of farmers.

The study revealed a considerable decline in the monthly per capita cereal consumption from 13.40 kg in 1993-94 to 11.23 kg in rural India in 2011-12, the corresponding figures for urban India being 10.63 kg and 9.32 kg.

This text offers business school students an excellent practical explanation of the short-term linkages in the macroeconomic arena. While the underlying theoretical constructs are not ignored, emphasis is placed on the empirical underpinnings and managerial implications of macroeconomics. The text begins by introducing key concepts such as the GDP, National and Personal Income, and the various measures of inflation and unemployment.

The analysis carries out demand projections for poultry products and poultry feeds in Bangladesh over the next 20 years. Using separate rural and urban consumption data and income elasticities of demand, the national consumption of eggs is projected to be 5,866 million for 2020. The corresponding consumption of meat is projected to be 307 thousand tons. The estimated use of grains (wheat and maize) as poultry feeds ranges from 867 to 898 thousand tons for the year 2020, depending on the approach adopted.

Most analyses of the relationship between health and the economy focus on average health, but health is actually very unevenly distributed across society. In all countries with available data, significant differences in health exist between socioeconomic groups, in the sense that people with lower levels of education, occupation and/or income tend to have systematically higher morbidity and mortality rates.

The prospects for household spending depend to a significant extent on how the jobs situation evolves. But the pace of spending will also depend on the progress that households make in repairing their financial positions. Among the most notable results to emerge from the recent revision of the U.S. national income data is that, in recent quarters, household saving has been higher than we thought--averaging near 6 percent of disposable income rather than 4 percent, as the earlier data showed.

Analysis of Global Findex data shows that account penetration is higher in econo- mies with higher national income as measured by GDP per capita, confirming the findings of previous studies. 3 But national income explains much less of the variation in account penetration for low- and lower-middle-income economies. Indeed, at a given income level and financial depth, use of financial services varies significantly across economies, suggesting a potentially important role for policy.

There is a continuing need to use recent and consistent multisectoral economic data to support policy analysis and the development of economywide models. Updating and estimating inputoutput tables and social accounting matrices (SAMs), which provides the underlying data framework for this type of model and analysis, for a recent year is a difficult and a challenging problem. Typically, input-output data are collected at long intervals (usually five years or more), while national income and product data are available annually, but with a lag.

A linear regression analysis shows that an increase of US $1,000 in GNI per capita is associated with a 20 percentage point decline in SFU prevalence. Let us assume that this cross-country relationship holds intertemporally for the 13 countries that account for 80 percent of SFU mortality. In the 11 countries other than China and India in figure 1.1, it would take about 55 years to reduce SFU prevalence to 50-55 percent and 75 years to reduce SFU prevalence to 10 percent, at a per capita income growth of 3 percent per year. In China and...

There is need to realize the fact that the present state of the world and especially the present state ofmonetary affairs are the necessary consequences of the application of the doctrines that have got hold of the minds ofour contemporaries. The great inflations ofour age are not acts ofGod. They are man-made or, to say it bluntly, govern- ment-made. They are the off-shoots of doctrines that ascribe to governments the magic power ofcreating wealth out ofnothing and ofmaking people happy by raising the 'national income'....

If now the household starts spending some of its income (as can be expected in the real world), we would see a further step in the income-creation: Demand for consumer goods would increase. As long as consumer goods are produced domestically and firms can expand their production, this would lead to a further increase in domestic employment, further increasing aggregate income. However, as households save part of their income, also aggregate saving increases, providing the ex post finance of the initial investment.

We included studies that evaluated the performance of the most recent generation of commercial, RD1 antigen-based IGRAs (QFT-GIT and T-SPOT) among adults (age $15 years) with suspected active pulmonary tuberculosis or confirmed tuberculosis in low- and middle-income countries [22]; the World Bank Country Classification was considered as a surrogate for national tuberculosis incidence. HIV infection was established either by documented serological testing or self-report.
