In the context of sources for natural products discovery are going scarcer, exploiting biotechnologically potential compounds from marine microbial symbionts is considered a relatively new trend. In our study a total of fifteen fungal strains were isolated from marine algal samples belonging to species Kappaphycus cottonii, K. striatus, Gracilaria eucheumatoides and Betaphycus gelatinus collected in Nha Trang in 2017.

This history of antimicrobials is marked with impressive discoveries, the majority of which have their origin in natural products. However in this work, the antimicrobial activity of β- nitrostyrenes and related compounds of synthetic origin is reviewed and investigated with a particular focus on the influence of fluorine functionality. Various fluorinated β-methyl-β-nitrostyrene compounds were prepared, their minimum inhibition concentration in cultures of Gram positive, Gram negative and a fungus and their lipophilicity was determined.

Natural products are currently underrepresented in the small-molecules drug library largely because of their extremely low yields, lower supply of natural resources and complex structures posing greater difficulty for structural modification and practical synthesis. Despite the challenges natural product based drugs continue to make impact in drug discovery.

The increasing spectrum of multidrug-resistant bacteria is a major global public health concern, necessitating discovery of novel antimicrobial agents. Here, members of the genus Bacillus are investigated as a potentially attractive source of novel antibiotics due to their broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities. We specifically focus on a computational analysis of the distinctive biosynthetic potential of Bacillus paralicheniformis strains isolated from the Red Sea, an ecosystem exposed to adverse, highly saline and hot conditions.

Among naturally occurring small molecules, tRNA-derived cyclodipeptides are a class that have attracted attention for their diverse and desirable biological activities. However, no tools are available to link cyclodipeptide synthases identified within prokaryotic genome sequences to their chemical products. Consequently, it is unclear how many genetically encoded cyclodipeptides represent novel products, and which producing organisms should be targeted for discovery.

The isolation of natural products from marine fish includes several essential steps. The process begins with the isolation of tissues from the fish. Often, in the past, the isolation of compound has been a random process. However there is now a growing recognition that the source of fish samples can be important for increasing the success rate of bioactive discovery.

Medicinal plants are the gift of nature to mankind. Since the dawn of human civilization, medicinal plants are being used for treating different ailments of human being in traditional and recognized system of health care. Though medicinal plants secured an important position for their therapeutic, fragrance and flavoring qualities for generations, but the discovery of synthetic drugs overshadowed it for a while. Due to increase in awareness about health and hygiene, people are found to be more inclined towards herbal products especially those derived from plants.
