  • Worldwide, a significant proportion of head and neck cancers is attributed to the Human papillomavirus (HPV). It is imperative that we acquire a solid understanding of the natural history of this virus in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) development. Our objective was to investigate the role of sexual behaviour in the occurrence of HNSCC in the French West Indies.

  • Chagas disease is a parasitic infection caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. It is an important public health problem affecting around seven to eight million people in the Americas. A large number of hematophagous triatomine insect species, occupying diverse natural and human-modified ecological niches transmit this disease. Triatomines are long-living hemipterans that have evolved to explode different habitats to associate with their vertebrate hosts.

  • Bean Common Mosaic Virus (BCMV) is an important viral disease in legumes, particularly the cowpea. It is a member of potyvirus, transmitted mechanically and by aphids in a non- persistent manner. Seed transmission results in the primary dispersal of the virus to new locations, often difficult to contain the spread of the virus. Hence seed transmission studies were carried out in cowpea variety C-152. It was determined by the grow out test at the two-leaf stage.

  • Climate change is a natural and continuous process. But recent relatively rapid change in climate occurs due to anthropogenic activities which makes alarming attention because it contributes largely to global warming by affecting the greenhouse gases (GHGs) and aerosols. GHGs mainly CO2, methane, nitrous oxide CFC11, CFC12, HCFC22and HFC23 with different global warming potential accumulate in atmosphere and increase in concentration over time creating the so called “greenhouse effect”.

  • The size, shape, and surface morphology of NP‟s play an important role in dominant their physical, chemical, optical, and electronic properties. The NP‟s that attract the eye of most researchers are made from bulk silver and gold (Gade et al., 2008). Nanoparticles can be engineered for shape, chemical nature, size, surface properties, surface modification to transmit special functionalities such as improved strength, catalytic properties and enhanced electrical and thermal conductivity. Different features of the engineered nanoparticles were shown in figure 1.

  • Combining ability was studied in a 4 × 4 half diallel cross in maize for grain yield and yield contributing characters under arsenic treatment. Half diallel analysis is an efficient method for the study of combining ability and the gene action of the characters under study. Combining ability (GCA and SCA) refers to the ability of a genotype to transmit superior performance to its crosses.

  • Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) is caused by a number of distinct begomoviruses under the family Geminiviridae. In Indian subcontinent, Indian cassava mosaic virus (ICMV) and Sri Lankan cassava mosaic virus (SLCMV) were reported to be associated with CMD. Although CMD is naturally transmitted by the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.).

  • Increase in animal population has resulted in rise in animal bite cases and thus increase the potential for transmission of zoonotic diseases. That is why it is very important to consider some factors while considering the likelihood of disease transmission which includes species of animal, type of injury, severity of injury, vaccination status, interval between incident and treatment, and various attributes of the injured person (age, underlying health, etc.). It is also important to have knowledge about the natural oral flora of the animal.

  • Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] known as green gram is one of the major fastgrowing, warm-season crop that is primarily cultivated in developing countries of Asia. The production of mungbean is severely constrained by mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) caused by begomo viruses, which is transmitted by whitefly, Bemesia tabaci. The absence of resistant/tolerant sources against MYMV disease leads to tremendous crop yield losses.

  • The present study was carried out to know the sap transmission nature of sunflower necrosis virus and detection by serological and molecular means. The disease was successfully transmitted through mechanical sap using 0.05 M potassium phosphate buffer. A maximum transmission of 52.33 per cent on cultivar KBSH-44, 51.33 per cent on KBSH-1, and 48.33 per cent on Morden. Under artificial inoculation, the newly emerged leaves showed slight downward curling, puckering and chlorosis followed by necrosis.

  • Based on the nature of symptoms, 16SrDNA sequence identity and phylogenetic relationships, the association of ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma asteris’ with Rice Orange Leaf (ROL) phytoplasma disease in South India was confirmed recently. This disease was transmitted by the Zigzag leafhopper, Recilia dorsalis as persistent manner in nature. The population fluctuation of hoppers played significant role in the incidence of rice orange leaf phytoplasma in rice ecosystem.

  • Lassa Fever is endemic to the eastern region of Sierra Leone. It is a haemorrhagic disease that is often transmitted from rats to humans and then human to humans. Ecological disturbances such as changes in land use involving conversion of natural ecosystem s to agriculture, mining or for urban expansion are reported to bring humans into close contact with animals such as the Mastomys rat that carries the Lassa Fever virus thereby posing health problems.

  • A widely adapted form of laryngectomee speech is transcervical electrolaryngeal speech. A transcervical electrolarynx works by the user placing the vibrating diaphragm of the electrolarynx against his neck, the mechanical energy of the diaphragm is transmitted through the neck, exciting the air in the vocal tract; this excited air can be formed by the lips and mouth to yield speech. The limitations of modern devices are that they are cumbersome and unable to produce speech as natural sounding as human speech.

  • Communication is often conceived of in basically the following terms. A person has some idea which he or she wants to communicate to a second person. The first person translates that idea into some symbol system which is transmitted through some medium to the receiver. The receiver receives the transmission and translates it into some internal idea. Communication, in this view, is considered good to the extent that there is an isomorphism between the idea in the head of the sender before sending the message and the idea in the receiver's head after recieving the message. ...

  • Rubber production on small-scale farming systems in Thailand is a secured way for farmers to gain constant income for their livelihood. Besides, rubberwood farming systems are easy to maintain because silviculture costs are mainly present at the preparation and planting stages. Economic risks to small-scale rubber farmers are not that significant because farmers always have the possibility to substitute their income source by switching into alternative farming products.

  • Nociceptors are specialized nerve fibers that transmit noxious pain stimuli to the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. A subset of nociceptors, the nonpepti-dergic C-fibers, is characterized by its reactivity for the plant isolectin B4 (IB4) from Griffonia simplicifolia. The molecular nature of the IB4-reactive glycoconjugate, although used as a neuroanatomical marker for more than a decade, has remained unknown.
