Climate change is expected to have a negative impact on food availability. While most efforts have been directed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, complementary strategies are necessary to control the detrimental effects of climate change on farm animal performance.

Excess fat content in chickens has a negative impact on poultry production. The discovery of QTL associated with fat deposition in the carcass allows the identification of positional candidate genes (PCGs) that might regulate fat deposition and be useful for selection against excess fat content in chicken’s carcass. This study aimed to estimate genomic heritability coefficients and to identify QTLs and PCGs for abdominal fat (ABF) and skin (SKIN) traits in a broiler chicken population, originated from the White Plymouth Rock and White Cornish breeds.

The degradation of intracellular proteins plays an essential role in plant responses to stressful environments. ClpS1 and E3 ubiquitin ligase function as adaptors for selecting target substrates in caseinolytic peptidase (Clp) proteases pathways and the 26S proteasome system, respectively.

Current genome sequencing projects reveal substantial numbers of taxonomically restricted, so called orphan genes that lack homology with genes from other evolutionary lineages. However, it is not clear to what extent orphan genes are real, genomic artifacts, or represent non-coding RNAs.

Learning accurate models from ‘omics data is bringing many challenges due to their inherent high-dimensionality, e.g. the number of gene expression variables, and comparatively lower sample sizes, which leads to ill-posed inverse problems.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. 12–15% of all tumors are triple-negative breast cancers (TNBC). So far, TNBC has been mainly associated with mutations in BRCA1. The presence of other predisposing genes seems likely since DNA damage repair is a complex process that involves several genes.

The F2 segregating generation of two crosses viz., Anna (R) 4 x IR 64 Pup 1 and Anna (R) 4 x Samba mahsuri Pup 1 were evaluated for variability parameters and frequency distribution. The results revealed that both the crosses exhibited high PCV and GCV for the traits viz., number of tillers per plant, number of productive tillers per plant, number of filled grains per panicle, shoot P content and single plant yield. The traits viz.

Fifteen gynoecious parthenocarpic hybrids hybrids/lines of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) were evaluated under polyhouse (fifty percent shade/naturally ventilated) conditions for yield and quality. The genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variations were highest for nodal position of first female flower, number fruits, fruit weight and fruit yield per plant which indicates maximum variability is existing in the genotypes. High genetic advance as per cent mean was observed for most of the characters, indicating that these characters are controlled by additive gene action.

The present investigation was carried out to estimate the extent of genetic variability for yield, its components and quality traits, genetic association, path coefficient analysis in thirty one hybrids of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench). High values of phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were recorded for important traits including yield per plant, number of fruits per plant and primary branches per plant respectively. High heritability were recorded yield per plant (96.00%) followed by ascorbic acid (75.00%), fruit width (73.00%) and number of nodes per plant (61.

Iron and Zinc are the key ingredient in human nutrition, soil and crop management. Rice is the major dietary source for the population in India but it is deficient in iron and zinc. An effort was made to quantify the iron and zinc content in brown, white and cooked white rice and to study the effect of nucleotide variations in genes associated with zinc. 14 genotypes were selected and grown in field at UAS, GKVK in RCBD, during Kharif-2014. Quality parameter zinc in brown rice showed negative effect on yield.
