Bovine neonatal pancytopenia (BNP) is a haemorrhagic disease of neonatal calves. BNP was first described in Germany in 2009, later on also in other European countries, and in New Zealand in 2011. The disease is characterised by spontaneous bleeding, pancytopaenia in the bone marrow, and a high case fatality ratio.

Neonatal diarrhea remains one of the main causes of morbi-mortality in dairy calves under artificial rearing. It is often caused by infectious agents of viral, bacterial, or parasitic origin. Cows vaccination and colostrum intake by calves during the first 6 h of life are critical strategies to prevent severe diarrhea but these are still insufficient.

Between 2007 and 2011 several thousands of calves died from bovine neonatal pancytopenia (BNP), a bleeding syndrome triggered by vaccine induced alloantibodies from the dams. Following withdrawal of the involved bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDv) vaccine, the incidence of this condition rapidly decreased, with no reported cases in the last 5 years.

Nursery farms that accept nursing and growing pre-weaned heifer calves from private dairy farms must work to prevent bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Knowledge of the BRD-associated risk factors related to calf management and calves’ condition will help to develop appropriate neonatal management practices at original farms and to identify calves at higher risk for BRD at nursery farms.

Delivery of colostrum within the first several hours after birth is vital for establishing successful passive immunity in neonatal dairy calves. However, it is unclear whether a difference in colostrum feeding strategy can affect the development of the calf gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of colostrum feeding time within the first 12 h after birth on the colonic mucosal immune system in neonatal calves using a genome wide transcriptome analysis.

Diarrhoea is one of the most important problems of neonatal calves causing huge economic loss to dairy industry. 250 faecal samples were collected from diarrhoeic calves up to 1 months of age from different unorganized dairy farms located in Koderma district of Jharkhand.

Escherichia coli is normal inhabitant of intestine of animals E. coli strains cause a wide variety of intestinal and extra intestinal diseases such as diarrhoea, urinary tract Infection, septicemia, and meningitis in neonates. Bacterial meningitis is often seen in neonatal calves as a sequele of septicemia caused by E. coli with multiple body system and organ involvement. Series of 32 calves of meningitis in neonatal calves, the post frequent clinical findings were lethargy, recumbancy, loss of suck reflex, stupper and comma.

Animal Rotaviruses (RVs) are considered as major pathogen threats to humans and livestock due to neonatal mortality and possibility of interspecies transmission and exchange of genomic materials from human to animal species and vice versa. There are eight groups of rotaviruses (A to H), among them mostly Group A mostly causes diarrhea in neonates and infants in humans and animals especially in cattle and buffalo worldwide. The present study was carried out to emphasize for molecular detection of circulating rotaviruses in Bhandara and Chandrapur districts of Maharashtra state in India.

The aim of the current study was to identify the prevalence of bovine rotavirus infection in bovine calves aged from 1 day to 2 months old in Gujarat region. Studied samples were divided into 4 age groups, age group I (1-10 days) age group II 911-20 days), age group III (21-30 days) and age group IV (31-60 days). All the samples were screened by latex agglutination test (LAT), ELISA and RT-PCR technique. Among the 117 fecal sample screened, 23.93%, 15.38% and 22.22%found positive for Rotavirus by LAT, ELISA and RT-PCR respectively.

Neonatal calf diarrhoea (NCD) is a major threat to dairy industries. It is a multi-etiology disease with E. coli as the predominant cause. Emergence of antimicrobial resistance is of utmost concern because it has rendered the present day antibiotics less effective. The present study aims for isolation, molecular characterization and antimicrobial resistant profiling of E. coli from neonatal calves. One hundred two fecal samples were collected from neonatal calves for isolation of E. coli. All the isolates showed positive result on biochemical analysis. But only 78.
