New iridoid

A new nonglycosidic iridoid, sambulin B (1), was isolated from the methanol extract of Sambucus ebulus L. leaves along with a recently reported new nonglycosidic iridoid, 10-O-acetylpatrinoside aglycone (sambulin A) (2); 2 flavonoids, isorhamnetin-3-O-β -D-glucopyranoside (3) and isorhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside (4); and a mixture of 2 flavonoids (5), quercetin-3-O-β -D-glucopyranoside and quercetin-3-O-β -D-galactopyranoside. Their structures were elucidated by 1-D and 2-D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) experiments.

Investigation of the aerial parts of Cephalaria elazigensis var. purpurea afforded one new oleanane-type saponin, namely cephoside A (1), and five known natural compounds (2–6). Compound 2, named anemoclemoside A, which is an unusual triterpene glycoside, was identified in the family Dipsacaceae for the first time. Chemical structures of all compounds were determined on the basis of the HRESIMS and 1D and 2D NMR data. Cephoside A (1) and anemoclemoside A (2) were assessed for their cytotoxic activities against HeLa cells, having IC50 values of 495 and 135 µg/mL, respectively.

A new iridoid, (4S,5R,6S,7S,9S)-7,10,11-trihydroxy dihydronepetalactone (1) together with four known flavonoids including linarin, neodiosmin, neobudofficide and rhoifolin were isolated from aerial parts of Valeriana hardwickii Wall.. Chemical structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses including ESI-HRMS and 1D, 2DNMR spectral data as well as by comparison with those reported in the literatures. Compound 1 showed no cytotoxic activity toward three human cancer cell lines (CCRF-CEM, MDA-MB-231 and HCT-116).
