New species of fungi recorded

The Ophiocordyceps is an important globally distributed genus that includes over 239-recorded species. Many species of the genus are famous for their significance in ecology, agriculture and pharmaceuticals. There have been 12 species of genus Ophiocordyceps found in Vietnam.

On the territory of Vietnam, about 12 000 plant species are cited which are potential hosts for parasitic fungi. Despite the richness of the plant world, reliably known data for obligate parasitic fungi, in powdery mildew (Erisiphales) and rust fungi (Pucciniales), are insufficient for Vietnam.

Pluteus and Volvopluteus are two closely related genera of Pluteaceae that comprise saprotrophic fungi. Although the genera have been well-studied in Europe and North and South America, the diversity of Pluteus, mainly Pluteus sect. Presented article was dedicated to study mycobiota of Alhagi mourorum Medik spreaded in the territory of the Absheron peninsula of Azerbaijan Republic. It became clear that, in the formation of mycobiota of plant was involved 8 species of fungi, which most of them belongs to the anamorphs of sac fungi and 2 species of registered fungi (Botrytis longibrachiata and Aspergillus ornatus) are new to the mycobiota of the Azerbaijan nature.

Family Cyperaceae, members are commonly known as sedges. This family has ambiguity about mycorrhizal or non-mycorrhizal nature. So far, many sedges have been investigated globally for mycorrhizal occurrence interest. However, a sedge genus, Eleocharis has been not paid more attention for mycorrhizal investigations. Present work is the first attempt to evaluate mycorrhizal status in a recently discovered endemic sedge species: Eleocharis konkanensis Chandore, Borude, Kambale & S.R. Yadav which grows in a Lateritic rocky plateaus habitat.

The research was carried out between 2002 and 2004. Approximately 1465 vascular plant specimens, plants infected with microfungi or not, were collected from the area. At the end of the study of the host plants, 35 families, 114 genera, and 138 host plant species (151 taxa) were established.

Three lichenicolous species of Cercidospora are reported for the first time from Turkey: Cercidospora crozalsiana on Squamarina lentigera, C. verrucosaria on Megaspora verrucosa, and C. werneri on Aspicilia desertorum. Comments on their morphological and anatomical characters.

The lichen diversity of the Maslak Campus of Istanbul Technical University is presented in this study. In total, 23 lichen species belonging to 14 genera were recorded. Strangospora pinicola (A.Massal.) Körb. is a new record for the Turkish lichen flora and 5 species are new records for Istanbul province.

The 2009 edition of MeSH contains 25,186 descriptors and more than 180,447 supplementary records for chemicals and other substances. For the 2009 edition, the MeSH Section added 446 new descriptors, replaced 123 descriptors with more up-to-date terminology and deleted 26 descriptors. Of special note are developments for 2009 MeSH related to fungi and to processes and phenomena. A major revision of the “Fungi” trees was undertaken to reflect consensus opinion regarding higher level fungi taxa (Mycology Research 111 (2007) 509- 547).
