The research article "Polyester production by halophilic and halotolerant bacterial strains obtained from mangrove soil samples located in Northern Vietnam" reports halophilic and halotolerant bacteria isolated from mangrove forests located in Northern Vietnam. Several of these bacteria were able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHAs are polyesters stored by microorganisms under the presence of considerable amounts of a carbon source and deficiency of other essential nutrient such as nitrogen or phosphorous.

Lysine crotonylation, as a novel evolutionarily conserved type of post-translational modifications, is ubiquitous and essential in cell biology. However, its functions in tea plants are largely unknown, and the full functions of lysine crotonylated proteins of tea plants in nitrogen absorption and assimilation remains unclear.

Agricultural yield is closely associated with nitrogen application. Thus, reducing the application of nitrogen without affecting agricultural production remains a challenging task. To understand the metabolic, physiological, and morphological response of wheat (Triticum aestivum) to nitrogen deficiency, it is crucial to identify the genes involved in the activated signaling pathways.

Phosphorus (P) deficiency is second to nitrogen (N) and its deficiency is widespread. Soil based site specific P recommendation for sustainable crop productivity mainly relies on status, and availability of phosphorus. Representative soil samples (250) from different agro-ecological regions of Eastern Dry Zone (EDZ) of Karnataka were analysed for P status and randomly collected samples were analysed for P fractions.

After nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, sulphur is the fourth nutrient, whose deficiency is widespread in India. Sulphur deficiency is observed primarily due to high crop yield and therefore higher rate of sulphur removal by crops, and lesser use of sulphur-containing fertilizers. Boron foliar sprays seemed to overcome the deleterious effects of drought by overcoming the drought-related molecular responses and consequently appeared to meliorate sunflower growth under insufficient water conditions.

To eradicate the malnutrition problem and improve the protein deficient diet and low yield of pea, it is necessary to increase pea production per unit area on sustainable basis to meet the requirement of increasing population of the nation. In view of that, experiment was executed to examine the response of four different organic manures viz. farmyard manure, vermicompost, castor cake and poultry manure as a source of nitrogen with or without chemical fertilizers like phosphorus and potassium and biofertilizer i.e. PSB were tested during the year of 2012 and 2013.

Terai Zone of West Bengal is considered as a fragile ecological region because of high rainfall and prolongs winter. Plants cannot derive nutrients effectively from its organic source because of slow mineralization. Soils are acidic and light textured. High rainfall coupled with low pH lead to deficiency of several macro and micro-nutrients and at the same time toxicity of some other elements.

The present investigation entitled “Fertility status of irrigated soils of Jhotwara panchayat samiti of Jaipur district “was carried out during 2010-11. The soils were pH neutral to alkaline (pH 7.2–8.5) in reaction having electrical conductivity (EC) value in surface soil (0.53–2.51 dSm-1 ). The data on nutrient showed that the soils are low in organic carbon and available nitrogen and low to medium in available phosphorus and available sulphur whereas, medium to high in available potassium.

Soil quality is one of the important factors controlling yields of the crops. Soil characterization in relation to evaluation of fertility status of the soils of an area or region is an important aspect in the context of sustainable agricultural production. Soil physicochemical parameters are more important that control its quality. Variation in nutrient supply is a natural phenomenon and some of them may be sufficient whereas others deficient.

Environmental pollution has been recognized as one of the major problems of the modern world. The increasing demand for water and the dwindling supply has made the treatment and reuse of industrial effluents as an attractive option. Halophilic bacterial isolates, TVU-AO6 and TVU-AO4 were found to be the efficient strains exhibiting maximum decolorization efficiency towards Acid Orange and they were selected for the development of consortium TVU-AO 64.

MicroRNAs play important roles in the adaptive responses of plants to nutrient deficiencies. Most research, however, has focused on nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), copper (Cu) and iron (Fe) deficiencies, limited data are available on the differential expression of miRNAs and their target genes in response to deficiencies of other nutrient elements.

Nitrogen (N) is the most common limiting factor for crop productivity worldwide. An effective approach to solve N deficiency is to develop low N (LN) tolerant crop cultivars. Tibetan annual wild barley is well-known for its wide genetic diversity and high tolerance to poor soil fertility.

Adventitious root (AR) formation in axillary shoot tip cuttings is a crucial physiological process for ornamental propagation that is utilised in global production chains for young plants. In this process, the nitrogen and carbohydrate metabolisms of a cutting are regulated by its total nitrogen content (Nt), dark exposure during transport and irradiance levels at distinct production sites and phases through a specific plasticity to readjust metabolite pools.
