  • To identify the best source of nitrogen among organic and inorganic sources and their combinations for better growth, flowering behaviour and fruit yield of chilli cv. Bulet, an experiment was conducted in Gangetic Alluvial plain of West Bengal. Six organic manures in different combinations were applied along with Urea at three levels (25%, 50%, and 75). Result showed that plant height and number of branches per plant was found maximum with a combination of vermicompost and urea at 50%. Flowering was delayed with increase in inorganic nitrogen level (25, 50 and 75%) in the growing media.

  • Purple nonsulfur bacteria are a group of diverse biotechnological applications, particularly in producing functional food rich in unsaturated fatty acids. In this study, a purple nonsulfur bacterium strain HPB.6 was chosen based on its strong growth, high lipid production and synthesis of unsaturated fatty acid (omega 6, 7, 9). The studying on biological characteristics showed that strain HPB.6 comprises ovoid-rod shaped cells with diameter of 0.8 - 1.0 µm, none motile, Gram negative stained. The cells divide by binary fission and contain bacteriochlorophyll a (Bchl a).

  • Rain fed lowland traditional variety rice cultivation in Andaman and Nicobar islands in acidic soils with low inherent fertility is done with minimal use of fertilizer and thus have low yields and profits. Use of hybrids and balanced fertilization especially nitrogen (N) may improve the situation. In this context, a field study was made during 2016 rainy season to assess the performance of 8 hybrids (including a variety) in main plots and four N rates (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg/ha) as sub-plot treatments. Experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications.

  • Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] is a legume known for nitrogen fixation interacting with efficient Bradyrhizobium strains. In Côte d'Ivoire, the Bradyrhizobium inoculums used in soybean production is a foreign strain, which requires the search for indigenous strains adapted to Ivorian soils. The present study aimed to isolate and select rhizobial bacteria from soybeans grown on soils sampled from six localities in the central-western region of Côte d'Ivoire.

  • Ureases, enzymes that catalyze urea hydrolysis, have received considerable attention for their impact on living organisms’ health and life quality. On the one hand, the persistence of urease activity in human and animal cells can be the cause of some diseases and pathogen infections. On the other hand, food production can be negatively affected by ureases of soil microbiota that, in turn, lead to losses of nitrogenous nutrients in fields supplemented with urea as fertilizer.

In this study, a Chilean Thraustochytrid (TH) strain, a class of marine protist, was used for the bioremediation of piggery slaughterhouse wastewater (SWW). According to the physicochemical analysis of the residue, it was characterized by an initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 9610 mg L 1 , 18,625 mg L 1 of oil and grease, 1639 mg L 1 of total nitrogen, 149 mg L 1 of total phosphorus, and 82.

  • Nitrogen contamination may come from a variety of sources: municipal sewage, animal manure, atmospheric deposition, biological N fixation, soil organic N, and/or nitrogen fertilizers. The consequences of contamination in a specific water body will depend upon the amount of contamination from all sources and characteristics of the receiving waters. Shallow rivers, wetlands, lakes, and reservoirs, have some capacity to remove nitrogen by microbial denitrification.
