An adrenocortical tumor is a rare tumor in pediatrics, which can be functional or nonfunctional. Functional tumors present with virilization, feminization, or hypercortisolism. Feminizing adrenal tumors, though rare in pediatrics, need to be excluded in any child presenting with features of feminization.

X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency is caused by IL2RG gene mutation. Several variations have been identified in the IL2RG gene, which potentially can prevent the production of nonfunctional proteins. Herein, a novel X-linked variant in the IL2RG gene is reported in twin brothers, associated with inflammatory bowel symptoms.

This chapter introduces the basic principles and processes of interface design and discusses how to design the interface structure and standards, navigation design, input design, and output design. The chapter also describes the affect of the nonfunctional requirements on designing the human-computer interaction layer.

The human genome encodes over 14,000 pseudogenes that are evolutionary relics of protein-coding genes and commonly considered as nonfunctional. Emerging evidence suggests that some pseudogenes may exert important functions.

The tumor suppressor gene CDH1 is critical for intercellular adhesion. In our previous work, we reported a nonfunctional CDH1 transcript that lacks the final 83 base pairs of exon 8 (1054del83). In this work, we probed the role of histone epigenetic modifications as well as DNA methylation in selection of this isoform.

The inhibition of Delta-like 4 (Dll4)/Notch signaling has been shown to result in excessive, nonfunctional vessel proliferation and significant tumor growth suppression. However, safety concerns emerged with the identification of side effects resulting from chronic Dll4/Notch blockade. Alternatively, we explored the endothelial Dll4 overexpression using different mouse tumor models.

BornAgain is a free and open-source multi-platform software framework for simulating and fitting X-ray and neutron reflectometry, off-specular scattering, and grazing-incidence small-angle scattering (GISAS). This paper concentrates on GISAS. Support for reflectometry and off-specular scattering has been added more recently, is still under intense development and will be described in a later publication. BornAgain supports neutron polarization and magnetic scattering. Users can define sample and instrument models through Python scripting.

The objective of this work was to establish the quantitative relationship between Lanreotide Autogel® (LAN) on serum chromogranin A (CgA) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with nonfunctioning gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) through an integrated pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) model. In CLARINET, a phase III, randomized, doubleblind, placebo-controlled study, 204 patients received deep subcutaneous injections of LAN 120 mg (n = 101) or placebo (n = 103) every 4 weeks for 96 weeks.

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in liver transplantation can disrupt the normal activity of mitochondria in the hepatic parenchyma. This potential dysfunction of mitochondria after I/R injury could be responsible for the initial poor graft function or primary nonfunction observed after liver transplantation.

To access the clinical and subclinical response of patients with pituitary adenoma by Gamma knife in Choray Hospital. Subjects and methods: A clinical, intervention study with no control group on 81 patients with definite diagnosis of recurrent or residual pituitary adenoma at Gamma Knife Unit, Choray Hospital from January 2012 to December 2016. Results: 23 patients with functioning tumours and 58 patients with nonfunctioning tumours. The average age was 43.35 ± 11.98 years, the youngest was 18, the oldest was 73 years old. Average volume of pituitary adenoma was 5,553.73 ± 2,991.15 mm3 .

Genomicfattyacid elongation 1 (FAE1) clones from high erucic acid (HEA)Brassica napus, Brassica rapaandBras-sicaoleracea, and lowerucicacid (LEA)B. napuscv.Westar, were amplifiedbyPCRand expressed inyeast cells under the control of the strong galactose-inducible promoter. As expected, yeast cells expressing theFAE1genes from HEA Brassicaspp. synthesized very long chain monounsaturated fatty acids that are not normally found in yeast, while fatty acid profiles of yeast cells expressing theFAE1gene from LEA B. napuswere identical to control yeast samples....

Activating mutations of the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHr) have been identified as a cause of toxic adenomas. Germline-inactivating TSHr mutations have beendescribedas a cause of congenital hypothyroidism. The effects of combining activating and inactivating mutations within a single receptor was studied. The double mutant T477I/P639S contained an activating TSHr mutation (P639S) togetherwithan inactivatingone (T477I). Theother one (I486M/P639S) contained two activating mutations.

The Tat system catalyzes the transport of folded globular proteins across the bacterial plasma membrane and the chloroplast thylakoid. It recognizes cleavable signal peptides containingacritical twin-argininemotif but little isknownof the overall structure of these peptides. In this report, we have analyzed the secondary structure of the SufI signal peptide, together with those of two nonfunctional variants in which the region around the twin-arginine, RRQFI, is replaced by KKQFI or RRQAA.

Guanylate cyclase-activating proteins (GCAPs) are neur-onal calcium sensors that activate membrane bound guanylate cyclases (EC 4.6.1.2.) of vertebrate photoreceptor cells when cytoplasmic Ca 2+ decreases during illumination. GCAPs contain fourEF-handCa 2+ -bindingmotifs, but the first EF-hand is nonfunctional. It was concluded that for GCAP-2, the loss of Ca 2+ -binding ability of EF-hand 1 resulted in a region that is crucial for targeting guanylate cyclase [Ermilov,A.N.,Olshevskaya, E.V.&Dizhoor,A.M. (2001) J. Biol. Chem.276, 48143–48148].

We investigated structural and functional aspects of the first mutation in TNNC1, coding for the calcium-binding subunit (cTnC) of cardiac tropo-nin, which was detected in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy [Hoffmann B, Schmidt-Traub H, Perrot A, Osterziel KJ & Gessner R (2001) Hum Mut17, 524]. This mutation leads to a leucine–glutamine exchange at position 29 in the nonfunctional calcium-binding site of cTnC.
