Since blood pressure tends to be unstable during induction of anesthesia in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery, an artery catheter is often inserted before induction to continuously monitor arterial pressure during induction of anesthesia. ClearSight System™ enables noninvasive continuous measurement of beatto-beat arterial pressure via a single finger cuff without pain using photoplethysmographic technology.

CNAP monitor is a continuous and noninvasive blood pressure (BP) measurement device that can be used in intraoperative monitoring. But whether its accuracy changes with age and its detectability of hypertension and hypotension are still unclear. This study was to investigate the agreement of CNAP and invasive arterial pressure (IAP) in different age groups, and the ability of CNAP to detect hypertension and hypotension.

Due to anthropogenic activity, most vulture species are threatened. Neophron percnopterus, the Egyptian vulture, is a vulture species with a declining population. One of the most important factors threatening the species is exposure to chemicals. The second largest population of this bird species is found in Turkey. Accumulation of heavy metals for this species has not been investigated. The aim of this study was to detect and measure As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn values in the feathers of Neophron percnopterus.

In patients with post-extubation respiratory distress, delayed reintubation may worsen clinical outcomes. Objective measures of extubation failure at the bedside are lacking, therefore clinical parameters are currently used to guide the need of reintubation.

Measuring range of movement is important in clinical shoulder assessment. Over the years, different techniques have been used to analyze upper limbs mobility. Smartphone image-based goniometer offers a noninvasive easy-to-use method of measuring arm abduction angle. However, the validity of this method has not been previously established.

Functional neuroimaging studies suggest that prefrontal cortex dysfunction is present in people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Near-infrared spectroscopy is a noninvasive optical tool for examining oxygenation and hemodynamic changes in the cerebral cortex by measuring changes in oxygenated hemoglobin.

This paper presents a specialized design and intensive validations for measuring blood glucose using photoplethysmography with pulsed light. Glucose level is an important index because whose excess can cause serious complications. Photoplethysmography had been introduced as a potential method for daily monitoring glucose level.

Cardiac output (CO) is an important hemodynamic index to assess the heart condition of the patients. Impedance cardiography (ICG) is an advanced method that can noninvasively and continuously monitor CO based on the variation of thorax impedance. Since the variation is very small compared to the base impedance, the acquisition solutions generally require complicated analog processing circuits.

The mortality from ischemic heart disease has decreased in recent years. The better under‐ standing of risk factors associated with development of coronary artery disease (CAD) has significantly contributed to this decline. Preventive measures such as aggressive therapy of arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and lipid disorders and by campaigning against the smoking are important components of this medical success.

A truly noninvasive medical measurement is any measurement system that does not physically breach the skin or enter the body deeply through an external orifice. Thus, the measurement of body temperature with a thermometer in the mouth, rectum, or ear canal is considered noninvasive, as is the use of an otoscope to examine the outer surface of the eardrum. Similarly, the opthalmoscope and the slit lamp, which shine light in the eyes to examine the retina and the cornea and lens, respectively, are considered noninvasive procedures....

The goals of experimental neuroscience research are fundamentally to gain mechanistic understanding of the pathology of disease in order to identify appropriate targets for potential pharmacological intervention and evaluation of putative therapies. With the advances in gene manipulation and transgene technologies, we have unprecedented ability to generate animal models of disease that more closely mimic the clinical conditions. Noninvasive techniques capable of investigating altered pathophysiologies are now of paramount importance.

"Molecular imaging" has been previously defined as "the in vivo characterization and measurement of biologic processes at the cellular and molecular level." This broad definition emerged during the last few years as a consequence of the convergence of molecular and cell biology with imaging science, including medical physics and technology. One of the major goals of molecular imaging has become the development of noninvasive strategies of "molecular profiling" in living subjects, i.e.

The technique can be applied for chlorophyll level monitoring in basic photosynthesis research, agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. Abiotic stress (water deficit, salinity, heat, heavy metals soil contamination, intense light, etc) affects significantly crop growth and yield in agricultural areas all over the world. Thus, it is imperative to study their effect upon the crops and discriminate among abiotic stresses using new noninvasive and nondestructive remote sensing precision diagnostic techniques.

The objective of this current chapter is to review the techniques whose potential to noninvasively determine Breslow index has been studied. Basic and technical principles of each technique will be mentioned as well as their accuracy in the determination of a factor whose importance in the clinical management of melanoma is so important as previously demonstrated. Currently Breslow index is measured by the anatomo-pathologist after incisional or excisional biopsy of the suspected lesion. So why non invasive determination of Breslow index would be of utmost clinical value?...

Velocity encoded phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (VE-PC MRI) is another imaging technique used to noninvasively measure Achilles tendon strain and changes in its force-displacement relationship concomitant with chronic unloading and subsequent recuperation. This technique will be reviewed in terms of its ability to quantify the Achilles tendon Young’s modulus (MPa) from a stress-strain curve.
