The nonparametric trend test (NPT) is well suitable for identifying the genetic variants associated with quantitative traits when the trait values do not satisfy the normal distribution assumption. If the genetic model, defined according to the mode of inheritance, is known, the NPT derived under the given genetic model is optimal. However, in practice, the genetic model is often unknown beforehand.

This paper examines the trends in rice and maize productivity growth in Andhra Pradesh. A nonparametric data envelopment analysis (DEA) programming method is used to compute Malmquist productivity indices. For study, time-series data on cost of cultivation of selected crops were collected from the reports of Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices for the period 1996-97 to 2014-15. The results revealed that the decomposition of the TFPch for the corresponding years into EFFch and TECHch revealed that 48.8 per cent increase in TFPch was due to improvement in the technology used.

The present study is an attempt to find past trends of apple in Jammu and Kashmir using parametric, nonparametric and semi-parametric regression methods. The performance of each method is compared using higher values of R2 and lower values of residual criteria. It is found that the nonparametric/semi-parametric regression comes out to be good fit for trends in apple production in comparison to the parametric regression.

A common approach to adjusting for seasonal and long-term trends is to use semiparametric models which incorporate a smooth function of time. The use of nonparametric smoothing in time series models of air pollution and health was suggested in Schwartz (1994a), where generalized additive Poisson models were used with LOESS smooths of time, temperature, dewpoint temperature and PM10. This approach can be thought of as regressing residuals from the smoothed dependent variable on residuals from the smoothed regressors.
