Non- systemic fungicides
-
Different non systemic and systemic fungicides are tested at four concentrations under in vitro over Macrophomina phaseolina causing charcoal rot of soybean. Among seven non systemic fungicides, mancozeb 75% WP and propineb 70% WP were found to be the most effective fungicides with cent per cent mean mycelial inhibition at all concentrations (1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 ppm) tested.

Many systemic and non-systemic fungicides were reported to manage the powdery mildew of capsicum. The information on the efficacy of new fungicides against powdery mildew of capsicum is insufficient. By considering the seriousness of disease and the economic damage/exorbitant losses caused by the disease, the present investigation was carried out by using integrated management approach using new molecule fungicides, botanicals and organic amendments for their efficacy to suppress powdery mildew of chilli under field condition.

Six fungicides viz., captan 50 WP, copper oxychloride 50 WP, dodine 65 WP, mancozeb75 WP, propineb70 WP and zineb 80 WP were evaluated against rice sheath blight (Thanatephorus cucumeris). The in-vitro evaluation of these fungicides through poisoned food technique at five different concentrations viz., 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 µg a.i ml-1 indicated that mancozeb proved the most effective exhibiting mean mycelial growth inhibition of 95.26 per cent followed by captan and dodine with 93.80 and 93.66 per cent, respectively. Copper oxychloride proved least effective and resulted in only 44.

Twelve fungicides including systemic and non-systemic, five bioagents and eight plant extracts were evaluated in vitro against Exserohilum turcicum, the causal agent of Turcicum leaf blight of maize. All the test fungicides, bioagents and plant extracts showed fungistatic action and significantly inhibited mycelial growth of the test pathogen over untreated control.

An in vitro bioassay was undertaken to record the compatibility of local isolate of Trichoderma harzianum with fungicides used in coorg mandarin-pepper-coffee plantations. Eight non-systemic, 10 systemic and 9 combi products fungicides were evaluated against Trichoderma for radial growth inhibition on PDA medium using poisoned food technique. Contact fungicides at selected concentration were found to be safer than systemic and combi products except Chlorothalonil.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the major legume pulse crops and it is majorly grown in India and other semi-arid regions of the world. Dry root rot of chickpea is the most destructive disease of chickpea. Therefore, in present studies fungicides (six systemic, seven non systemic and six ready mix fungicides) were tested in vitro at three different concentrations by poisoned food technique for evaluating their efficacy against M. phaseolina.

In onion, among the postharvest diseases, black mold rot caused by Aspergillus niger is the predominant one. The pathogen is transmitted by contaminated seed or soil. The infection usually begins at germination of onion seeds and may continue throughout storage. The purpose of the study was to explore the control of black mold of onion with various systemic, non systemic and combination of fungicides by treating the seeds. Considering per cent reduction of radial growth of Aspergillus niger, non systemic fungicide dinocap (90.28) and thiram (80.

In vitro evaluation of some fungicides (systemic and non-systemic) against twenty different Indian isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii were tested on potato dextrose agar medium by using poisoned-food technique and per cent growth inhibition was recorded at ranging from 125, 250 and 500 ppm for systemic; and 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm for non-systemic, respectively. For fungicides evaluation, the isolates were grouped on the basis of growth rates on Petri plates with 90 mm diameter as fast (5-6 days), medium (8-10 days) and slow growing isolates (12-15 days) respectively.

In recent years Macrophomina phaseolina causing stem canker of pigeonpea is more problematic in pigeonpea growing parts of Karnataka. Present investigation was taken on evaluation of non-systemic, systemic fungicides and bio-agents against M. phaseolina under laboratory condition. Five non systemic, four non systemic and three combi products were evaluated. Similarly two isolates of Trichoderma spp. four Pseudomonas fluorescens isolates, one Pseudomonas putida and one Bacillus subtilis were evaluated against M. phaseolina by poison food technique and dual culture method respectively.

In order to feed increasing population there is need of solution which can provide quick result which is possible with fungicides. Fungicides are necessary evils to kill unwanted pest and disease causing organisms in the agro-ecosystem. These are indispensible tool for protecting the crops and increasing food production. Soil applications of fungicides have been frequently used to control soil borne fungal diseases. Fungicides are used for killing or inhibiting the growth of fungus.
